Stubhub Ticket Ripoff

  • So I didn't know until recently that I'd be able to attend tonight's game and assuming there were none left thru the box office, bought a pair form Stubhub. So, I get to the game and my friend and I are told that the barcode has been used and the tickets (printouts) are no good. Luckily, I was able to buy a pair so I got in but missed the freaking Gary ceremony dealing with this ticket BS. The girl at the box office said other people had the same problem with the same guy tonight. I'll call Stubhub tomorrow but I have the guy's name and address. The money isn't a big deal but it's the principle. If anyone knows Daniel Horton of Beltsville, please tell him he's scum.

I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?

It's part of the StubHub agreement that if you sell them you have to take them down. Please report back what they tell you when you call them. Did it say electronic download when you bought them?

Yeah, it was an electronic download, I got an email from stubhub a couple days after purchase and printed the tickets out. It looks like my friend Daniel got there early and used his original tickets or I guess didn't take them down and sold them again?. I'll be sure to report back. Not thrilled I missed childhood co-hero Gary (and Cal) get the floor named after him.

  • Stubhub has a customer service # that they tell you to call at the venue when that happens and they're usually pretty good at fixing the problem for you on the spot and getting you in without much hassle somehow. Regardless, even now you're completely covered. Just call Stubhub and they'll set you straight.

Wow. I bought tickets off of Stubhub and they were registered to the same guy. Our tickets didn't seem like they actually scanned, to be honest, but we went in without incident. Where were your seats?

Well, looks like he was unable to make enough money during his basketball playing days.

The seats were sec 224, Row 7, Seats 1 and 2. Luckily the box office had a couple in 110 to sell me. Haha OT, I was trying to figure out last night for a couple minutes why the name seemed so familiar. Just spoke with a rep at stubhub who transferred me to her supervisor. They're refunding the money I paid to stubhub, they're going to look further into the matter and she told me to hold onto my receipt for the tickets I had to buy thru the ticket office last night and they may even refund that (which is beyond what I'd even want). Was annoying to deal with at the game last night but I must say stubhub handled it pretty well today. I still want to punch the seller in the face for making me miss Gary.

  • i once got to stubhub's ticket pickup (in that hotel) and they told me my upper deck seats had been double sold in this manner... and fixed it by giving me lower level, center court, 10 rows back seats at no additional charge.

Yeah, this is why StubHub can get away with charging like 50% convenience fees. They're a rip-off but their customer service is 2nd to none. In fact when I buy StubHub a lot of the time I hope for this type of thing to happen because 90% of the time you end up with something better than what you had before.

  • Why didn't you go to the original seats once you were inside and find out who was sitting in them?

That was the plan but we got in right before gametime and wouldn't have had time to get there and back during halftime. As it was I barely got a soda, went to the bathroom and got back just before the second half. When I thought it was sold out, I was asking the ticket taker if he would let me in to talk to this dude...he laughed and declined.

Glad everything seems to be working out well for you. The seats I bought from Daniel Horton were sec 224, row 9, seat 5&6. If it's any consolation, your seats were filled by a mid-to-late 20's couple. The guy was pretty loud and into the game.

Looking up Daniel Horton's address from the ticket stub, it looks like it's actually an office park or something. I can't find anything for the suite which is listed on the ticket, but there's another suite pretty close to the one listed which is registered to "GreatSeats.com". Seems pretty plausible that Horton works for that office.

  • I sell a fair amount of Nats seats on SH, and since they're the "official ticket reseller" of MLB, they might be smart to work out a system where once your tix are sold by electronic delivery, the original barcode is invalid and the paper one is active. Not sure how hard that would be to do though.

At least the dude in my seat was loud and into the game :) Yeah, I looked up the address as well. Wouldn't mind swinging by there if I have any business in the area anytime soon. Yeah sugarmag, I like the idea.

That is what the Caps do with their system (ticket exchange?). Once you make the tickets available for download the barcodes on the original tix are invalid.

That's probably a waste of time. You don't know the guy's real name and if the address is an office park there are likely hundereds of people working there, any one of whom could be your guy.

Greatseats.com - dealt with them in the past. Total scumbags. IMO - that is who scammed you.

We talked about the number of tickets available on stubhub last week someone commented that it looked like a broker/scalper bought a ton of tickets in the corner sections and were likely stuck with a lot of tickets they were desperate to get rid of. I'd bet they sold the tickets on their site as well as stub hub.

I just did a quick look at their tickets for the VT game and unless there's a HUGE coincidence, all of their tickets are also being sold on stubhub.

They likely accidentally double sold the tickets. Stubhub isnt going to pay them if the tickets didnt work. Its not like there was any advantage to them selling you tickets that wouldnt work.

Its not like you paid cash in the lot for tickets that didnt work, and had no recourse.
