RIP Georgetown basketball!

  • now that Georgetown is actually a mid-major, do we have to pay them to play us at Comcast? Should we just let them come to Comcast for exposure that comes with playing a major conference out of the goodness of our hearts?

    purplehayes

  • Time to get those bitches to stop whining and play in Comcast.

  • the leage of G'Town, SJU, Providence, Seton Hall, Villanova, Depaul, Marquette, Notre Dame and Xavier isn't bad. Maybe throw in St. Joe's. I honestly don't know the financial structure of how the Big East sliced up their revenue. The Big East tourney in Madison Square Garden is their big money maker.

This article is making me laugh really really hard at Georgetown.

The bottom of the article has a bunch of who to blame, but the Big East's unequal revenue sharing is not included there. Also, the author thinks the mixed membership has worked for the Big East when it clearly has not.

  • On a more serious note, there is a good chance that Syracuse and Georgetown agree to keep their rivalry around as a non-conference game. If they agree to a home-and home with Syracuse, any excuse they ever have for not playing Maryland goes out the window, exposing them for the bitches they really are

  • I'm really looking forward to the day 10 years from now when Turgeon schedules Georgetown again.

    At Comcast.

    As a guarantee game.

    No, not bad at all.
And I think the leftover Big East will be able to hold its tournament in a small gym built in a cave under Port Authority.

  • No matter what they do they're still in a huge bind. If they form a basketball-only conference they're stuck between their 3,000 seat on campus high school gym and a 20,000 seat off campus NBA arena that's a bitch to get to. What happens when their crappy Big East home games go from 12,000 attendance to 6,000 in a cavernous NBA arena? Good luck impressing recruits with that! Oh, and that game against Providence isn't on TV either. What does it even cost to use Verizon Center 15 times a year? At some point they're going to come to that crossroad. I know Ted is a Georgetown man but he's also a business man.

It might be one thing if they had their own Patriot Center but McDonough would be the smallest gym in the A-10 right now.

  • the Big East football schools (Syr, Pitt, Uconn, Lou, Cincy, Rut, USF, WVU) as a group have been way better of late in BASKETBALL than the basketball schools. They would have been better off breaking away to form an all sports conference. Too late for that now.

    esquire

  • Some of the quotes on the Hoya board are gold.

    - "DFW- we know that, we don't want it. We didn't do it. Cuse and Pitt did. This morning. Did you hear that noise? That actually was the deathknell of major college basketball. We're really going to need an A10 sized on campus gym soon. The thought of playing in front of 6000 at MCI is too depressing to behold.

That ship has sailed. There will be no new on-campus gym at Georgetown, even if meant shutting the program down. "

    - "One Hail Mary option that a non-bcs basketball conference might have at its disposal is courting Duke. They clearly have never been interested in upgrading their program to be competitive even in the current ACC, let alone in some football-centric superconference. They have always done the absolute minimum necessary to field a team - if they weren't so dominant in bball, the ACC would have had a Temple-like discussion with them long ago. Even if they were inclined to upgrade, I doubt they could. Maybe they would prefer to milk their cash cow and avoid the money drain that is big time football."

    - "Honest question: do you think that we'd be in this situation if a college football playoff system had been instituted about 3 years ago? Didnt Obama say he was going to push for this in congress? "

    lol It's Obama's fault!

  • "We won't be impacted recruiting wise. Get real. We're a brand name. We'll always be a draw for the television networks, and we have as much college basketball tradition as anyone. We'll still field a great program and we'll still recruit. "
