O'Brien expected to appeal on Vandy ban

    and if Edsall said this is a 50-50 call but I'm going to be a jerk about it, at least I can respect some honesty. Instead, there are innuendos without any real explanation. Why did he also ban the other two kids from Vandy? Why didn't he ban all the transfers from Vandy if he knew Franklin and DOB talked during the year. Why didn't he address this with Danny during the year and instead settles it now if he thought Franklin messed with Danny's head. Oh, because these are just deflections...except they're now made by some board posters. LOL

    He didnt need to ban all of the transfers from going to Vandy because most, if not all had burned their redshirts. They would not go to Vandy or else they would lose a year of eligibility.

    I do think RE did the right thing but I would let DOB go to Vandy. It is just not worth the aggravation to keep all of this going. Focus on the players that are here.

      I thought a player sits out a year regardless of where they go.

        Not if they go down a level, which is what they probably would have done even if there was no ban from going to Vandy.

            when announced, I thought this was a 50-50 call. I even suggested that this is SOP. Then I heard Edsall's explanation. He has rules for himself and rules for others, plain and simple. That's why I laugh when people suggests he's doing this for the best interest of the program...horseshit. He's doing this to preserve himself. after a year here, he thinks he's the program. If he thought more of the program, he would have adjusted already. Instead, he digs himself further in the sand.

            The defense of Edsall's action I'm reading on this board would make sense if you were to exclude almost all of the horrific things that took place in the past 6-7 months. But how in the world could you ignore what took place, what Edsall has been doing and think this is about DOB and Franklin.

            Here's the kick...Edsall has been deflecting his failures but putting the focus elsewhere. My team sucks...they lack discipline. Players are leaving...they don't want to play our positions. Players are leaving...they don't want to be discipline and succeed in life (Like he's the only one who knows how to teach people life lessons!) DOB is not succeeding...well, we had the wrong expectations. DOB is leaving...well it must be tampering and Danny's lack of commitment. It's one deflection after another and his defenders in this case are buying his shit. Even jdomino and others have forgotten that the majority of the responsibility for the failing is on Edsall! Instead, they make unsupported claims that Franklin messed Danny up or that Danny quit on the team and tanked the season.

            ARE YOU FUCKIN SERIOUS? You're going to ignore all of that hot mess and put it on DOB and Franklin? holy Shit.

            and Franklin may be a snake...there are snakes in every program including ours.

            I tend to look at this more as a "Maryland" thing than an "Edsall" thing. We all know Edsall is a hypocrite, but to me this is a school thing like the G-Town situation. Not just basketball or Edsall.

                • Thought - if Franklin is so great of a recruiter (which apparently is why Rangoon is blocking this) - where are all of the UMD All Americans or All ACC Players that Franklin recruited? Particularly in the last couple of years?

                  And yes - this is obviously a knock on some UMD fans who think that Franklin is actually a great recruiter.

                  Of course this is a dick move against Franklin. He left (I don't blame him because he got a HC job and I know him). Who cares? Terps fans are willing to side with JF who doesn't work here anymore over the guy who is supposed to lead us? I get it - but RE is the coach and we are stuck with it. I am a UMD grad and I am not ever wearing a Vanderbilt piece of clothing.

                  Have fun being miserable.

                    I'm having a hard time understanding this point so forgive me. Edsall did not ban the other players from Vandy because he knew that those players would not want to sit out a year? didn't Dill go to Rutgers? Why were Garcia and Rowson included, because they each have a redshirt year?

                      I would like to think of it the same way but I'm not convinced Edsall sees it that way. He may say it but that doesn't mean much.

                        Let me start off by saying that I don't know Danny O'Brien at all. He seems like a nice kid. But I can't help but think that a lot of the negative media coverage is being perpetuated by him.

                        Because DOB has a secret PR firm in his back pocket and Edsall and the University of Maryland Athletic Department have no PR personnel to help them?

                        You know what, I love Maryland. I grew up in the state, I went to school at Maryland, and I choose to live here after graduating. But I'll be damned if I can't recognize and admit when my school is fucking everything up. Like they are here.

                          when do players register for classes for the upcoming semester? Because by your logic, he would have had to loaded up on the spring 12 semester before the first snap vs. miami.

                          Maybe I can clear this up with one post, because it will be my last for 10 days while I do damage to my liver in St. Kitts.

                          I think DOB decided back before the the spring semester in 2011 that there was a strong possibility he would transfer and starting loading up on classes in order to graduate a year early (2 years early for eligibility) in the spring of 2012. That being said, I don't think he was 100% mentally in the game this past fall because sometime during the summer or during summer practic he decided he was going to be leave. That doesn't mean he tanked anything or purposedly play poorly, he means that subconsciously, he did not have the same drive or desire as he did in 2010.

                          But, let me repeat myself ..... I think DOB did what was best for himself and fortunately for him, he is smart enough to graduate early while playing major college FB. Best of luck to him wherever he goes and if he does appeal and ends up at Vandy, I hope it turns out the way he wants it to.

                          After all is said and done, the sun will still rise in the east tomorrow and I will still feel jaded as a Terps fan.
