"That font kind of sucks. The middle dip in the "M" comes waaaay too far down for my liking."
I remember being told during Freshmen orientation that the middle dip in the M was required to descend all the way to be even with the outside dips (like the old baseball team caps). I wondered why the M painted on the endzone seats at Byrd didn't comply with this. The M-flag logo (basketball) is in line with this.

This. If you are going to be emphasizing 'Maryland', keep the same visual identity (especially the font which has come to be identified with the late 90s-early 00s glory days). Plus, it also lets them sew together the existing M flag, Testudo, and script Terps with the new emphasis on 'Maryland'.
Maybe there was some licensing issue with Nike (who may have created the font).

The font looks dated. And not in a classic sort of way.
The red is faded; it isn't as deep as it normally is. The font also seems oddly skinny. It just feels like something that would have come out of the 70s. Is that what we really want?
Why is this so hard? Come up with something iconic or stick with what you have. All this turnover without impact just cheapens the brand and makes us look small time.

Not feeling the font, and like someone already mentioned, don't crush the flag and take the life out of it. The wavy flag with the "M" is the best. Why not just push that across the entire athletic department and take the easy road to greatness?

I wouldnt overreact too much to this. I don't think this is a logo that's going to show up on uniforms. It just doesnt seem to lend itself well to that but you never know what those geniuses will do.

It definitely doesn't feel unique. Like the Nats first home and away uniforms, it feels like it's just a step away from being put together by MS Word Art.

I appreciate the effort to reach out to the entire state. (Suck it, Yow.) But throwing out "Terps" is baby-with-the-bathwater stuff. The problem isn't that Terps wasn't inclusive; the problem is the name was backed by a *policy* that made it very difficult for constituencies outside the university to identify with the team. It didn't matter what the name was.
By getting rid of "Terps" you are giving up a brand, albeit a quirky one, that people identify with UM sports everywhere. Seems odd.

On the UMTerps Football schedule website I noticed that they replaced the Testudo M logo with the M flag logo for each matchup.

I hope so.. they wanted to emphasize Maryland, the M logo is recognizable, and it includes the flag in a better looking way than the other picture people posted here, where the flag is squished into some small line underlining Maryland.
It would look terrible if they spell out Maryland on the helmet. M Logo is a much better look.

I would think the flag logo would need to be updated, as the "M" they use is still in the old font as opposed to the new "terrafont."
