Sucks, but I definitely think this program is going to be successful in the future under Tillman. Players played with heart the whole season.

Really tough loss. UVA's zone was unbeatable. We gave up a few easy goals on 1-2 shots. Also made a few mental mistakes at crucial points in the game (WTF was Amato thinking on that outlet pass???) We also failed to capitalize on some of our opportunities. Better luck next season.

i hate seeing UVA win anything. even these 2nd tier sports. if it was devner i'd just chalk it up to cinderella or whatever.

As long as I can remember, they still haven't beat UVA back to back. Til really needs to recruit his ass off. Starsia was quoted that this wasn't even one of his better talented squads. Question though, how to recruit the top players, especially those from the prep schools? If they want that continuation and need the contacts to get into the world of finance as so many of them do afterwards, then continue the UVA, Duke, UNC, IVY, UNC, Hop etc. route. Apparently, blue collared lax doesn't cut it in NC's as evidenced throughout the years since the mid 70's. Maybe though we're beginning to see a change - He'll need some years to recruit and implement, or for those that think they are cursed, then forget it - this is their best chance of a men's NC of the three(FB, BB, LX) sports.

Pretty obvious that the athletic ability required to hit/pitch a baseball at the top level far outweighs anything in lacrosse. To be fair, a lot of people comfuse stamina with athletic ability. There's a reason top baseball players make millions while top lacrosse players go into the corporate world. No one wants to pay money to see a niche sport that attracts a lower caliber of athlete than the major sports. Sorry for getting off topic but anyhow, always a bummer to see the Terps lose to effing UVA in anything.

You compare "top level" baseball players against college lax players. Then you claim that the millions "top baseball players" make proves their athletic ability.

By that token, I guess Lady Gaga is an amazing athlete?

You DO make a valid point when you say that "No one wants to pay money to see a niche sport..." and in my mind that is the reason that baseball players are so well paid, not because lacrosse players are less athletic. That's just dumb.

i think what he is saying is that because they make millions you will have lots more people competing to be at the top of the sport and therefor will have better athletes as a result.

Except hitting a basball is the hardest thing to do in sports and shooting free throws is one of the easiest. And you're right AO, baseball players make millions because they possess a skill few in the general public could ever hope to...not the case in lacrosse. My boy Bunk and I like SATerp's idea about the inner city lacrosse players :)
