Ekene, Jamar Smith, DJ and others were hurt by the fact that the NC team, in addition to being obviously very talented, was full of players with extraordinarily high basketball IQs. Steve. Juan. Lonny. Tahj. Byron. Really pretty remarkable. Fans got spoiled and expected that of everyone.

This...although the effect was amplified because Ibekwe had all-world athletic ability and awful basketball IQ and hands. In Terp modern history in terms of players who shocked/frustrated you with great athletic ability and horrible basketball IQ I rank it:
1 Exree Hipp 2 Ibekwe 3 Mychal Parker 4 Jamar Smith 5 Mike Jones

Not to get picky but wasn't Gary's beef with w/ Jones that he was too slack and slow on D? I never thought of him as somebody who was totally lost out there like Parker seemed to be. He just wasn't the athlete we thought we were getting. I also thought Smith was alright. In fact, between Lonny and Williams I'd take Smith over any other big we had. The biggest let down from great expectations for me was Garrsion but I think it has more to do with his motor than basketball IQ.
