Jordan Williams Assigned to D-League

That happened pretty quickly. Hope the guy the best but have wonder if he ever sets foot in the NBA again. Got to think he'll spend the rest of the season in the D-League and then sign overseas after his contract runs out. Plent of money to be made overseas I guess but this has to be dissapointing.

hard to feel bad for a guy that bailed on being a college student the first time someone told him he was an NBA player

He will never play in the NBA that is a fact very few people have come back from the D-league and those that have -- have been far more talented than Williams shame cause I think had he stayed one more year he would have been more prepared but then again as some have said on here had he stayed Gary may not have retired and then we don't get Turge and I have a major MAN CRUSH on Turge!!!

I still don't think Gary's abrupt retirement had anything to do with Jordan Williams. I put more of that on Wally Judge and his handler being the final straw.
As for JW, this is hardly a surprise. I will always believe that he made a mistake, said so all along. Had he stayed he would have been one of the better big men in the nation and even with a deeper draft I firmly believe he would have had a better shot. And nothing since he was drafted has shown me that I was wrong.

Great move, bail on your college team. get demoted, and disappear from basketball for forever. Seems like the wise move to me.

I don't think most people are hurt. I think it's the I told you so. I'm probably wrong but there were a thousand people telling him he wasn't ready and one person that told him he was ready for the NBA. He listened to the one person.

Several reasons:
He made a bad decision in a lot of people's minds. The "I told you so" factor kool mentioned is a natural reaction.
Had he stayed in school our prospects for this season would be totally different. Nobody was hating on Joe Smith for leaving because it made sense. This didn't make sense and both sides were hurt because of this "mistake".
As RDurr posted he did kind of act like a douche at the end while he was still here but not really here..

This is a very good point. You can add Steve Francis to this list as well. Nobody was upset Francis left because it was a logical decision. The decision by JWill showed no logic at all.

You could even add Wilcox to this list as much as all of us wanted him to stay and he could have used one more year he was a 1st rounder and when you know that it is a no brainer.

Honestly, for his nba prospects --though not our tournament prospects -- I still don't think a year would've made a difference. But that's an old debate.

I think this was the point some of us were making about shooting for a late first round next year-unless I'm mistaken, teams, especially hurting teams like the nets usually don't send first rounders down to Dleague. Yeah, yeah, he couldn't improve anymore in college...hogwash. The chances of him not improving now are greater than they would be had he stayed.

agree it's an old debate but I still have yet to get a good answer as to who the last 10 picks this year who would have eliminated any chances of Williams being a first rounder. We know the draft is stacked, usually people talk about lotto picks in this context (seriously has anyone ever said, man, that guy projected at #29 is a sure fire!). By their very nature, late first rounders are hardly locks.

Yeah I never bought the argument that a guy on the end of an NBA bench will develop better than a guy playing major minutes on an ACC team. Sure there is better coaching in The League but practice just ain't the same as a game.
