Harrison Sr. Refutes Report

  • SATerp said...

Think of the recruiting battle for the Harrisons as a basketball season. If you got into the final two teams in terms of victories, but lost the tournament final game to the eventual winner, would you be disappointed with that season or prospects for upcoming seasons?

In a certain sense, in terms of UMD's recruiting stature, if we lose the Harrisons, it's like our FF loss to Duke (minus the cheating refs and the stench of Ratface). That was a benchmark for UMD that I wouldn't mind reaching, and I bet there's a boatload of REALLY GOOD recruits that take note of it too.

In any case it'll be moot, since they're signing with us.

Sorry, just dont see how coming in second does anything for the program. I will judge turgeon on what happens on the floor, regardless but if he wants to play the national recruiting game, results are gonna be what counts. Does he get the recruit (s) or not? Period. Not getting the twins doesnt mean he is a failure as a coach, it will mean this "new style recruiting" we have heard so much about is still mostly all talk. Get the twins, begin a new era. Miss out and its the same story we have heard before over and over again.

  • That our "fall back" is a player the caliber of Roddy Peters speaks volumes about where our recruiting is.

As for the "sources" on both sides. No one knows a thing. We're neck deep in innuendo and connecting dots.

Hey Jeff! Are those new rules about name calling still in effect?

I'm really starting to think that's the case in most recruitments, like in Julius Randle's, every "recruiting expert" out there, said Duke and UNC were leaders at one time or another, and they end up getting cut off his list. It speaks volumes about most of these "sources" just being pure speculation by people.

  • Dumb question, maybe, but how long do you think they've known which school they're going to pick?

    UKDude, I've enjoyed your commentary...

  • I find it neat that we're in this big fight with Kentucky for the twins, then play them early on this year.

I honestly don't think they've known yet, supposedly the dad said they don't even know 100% for sure yet, but they will commit to get it over with on Thursday.

Even with the UA connections and what not, it's still impressive Maryland has kept up this close. We'll see Thursday guys, good luck! We'll all need it!

This post feels like the back pat and unsolicited advice mike krzyzewski gives to a mid-major coach after the refs just screwed them out of a victory.

I don't know, because that surely didn't happen against Lehigh.

Gary had Cleare and Justin Anderson in his last class (alex len and faust say hi as well). Very comparable to the turge class sans the twins. Unless the next KD or melo grows up a maryland fan, its always gonna be the same refrain. Being "in the mix" for good players means NOTHING if you don't get any of them. And my point is, this class is comparable to a Gary class when he actually was trying. Getting the twins puts it in the above and beyond territory. I give limited credit for getting Wells but gary tried to go down that same road and got rejected by the administration. Gary got sick of being playing 'the game" because he knew the results before it even started so he just said fuck it. Now we hire 400k a year "assistants" and full backing of the UA amateur army. Its not too much to ask for some real results and not bullshit about "high profiles" that don't mean dick on a basketball court. Kentucky, UNC, Duke are ALWAYS going to have a higher profile and if cant get the twins, who play for UA and have local ties, what is gonna stop other coaches from coming in and continuing to poach the local talent? NOTHING, just like always. Until the twins, or that next KD or whomever actually suits up for MD, its gonna be the same old shit. He has to break through, not almost break through.

You're nuts man...do you remember the last few years of the Gary era...I love the man, but cmon...be serious

  • From a Kentucky site

"They're ready!" Harrison told Cats Illustrated.

While the twins will be ready to announce that decision to fans across the nation on Thursday, Harrison maintains that his sons have not quite made that decision; but they will sometime in the next two days.
"They haven't actually made the decision," said Harrison, "But they are close enough to make it on Thursday."

Since the decision is not 100% finalized, Harrison said that Maryland coach Mark Turgeron's visit with the twins on Wednesday afternoon will not be to inform him of the decision. Rather, the visit with Turgeron should give Maryland one more chance to make a pitch to the Fort Bend (Tex.) Travis guards.

Harrison Sr. says that the twins have not made a decision

  • my phone has been blowing up over the past 5-10 min from people celebrating, saying it's md...no legit sources yet, but anyone else been hearing this?

    dhbfor6

  • This might be my eternal pessimism speaking but I just can't make heads or tails of Turgeon's visit tomorrow.

I can't see this visit being at the request of the Harrison family. If the answer is no, it would be very rude to waste a day or more of their time during a recruit contact period. If the answer is yes, you let them use that day of the contact period to pitch to another recruit and increase the chances of the twins having better talent around them.

It doesn't make sense if Turgeon requested to be able to talk to them. If they are a lock, its a waste of time that could be spent on another recruit. If they decided on UK, a last minute talk after months and months of heavy recruiting isn't going to change their minds (plus it doesn't exactly seem particularly professional to invade their house at the last minute to beg).

I see what you did there...

You are welcome any time. Aside from us, I don't think there's another fan base that has quite the level of disdain for Duke/UNC than Kentucky...gotta love that at some level.

Oh...almost forgot: What in the hell is going on??!! Another visit for Turgeon?? This is just getting straight-up bizarre.

  • "There is no logical reason for someone to think Maryland competing with Kentucky for two of the best players in this class," Vaccaro said. "It is illogical. Maryland has not won a game since 1919, since Gary (Williams) won the championship (in 2002). They have had problems. And you are talking about Kentucky — Kentucky. They choose who they want."

I've seen too many recruiting wars go south after a lock. Lets wait and see and hope for the best.

We've seen this before in Premium. Let's hope this time they are right.

  • This sounds like an example of the old ''paralysis by analysis." There is no way that the twins can learn anything new at this stage with another visit. After all this, they'll be going with their gut.

All right, I managed to keep it real until now because Kentucky is Kentucky. But now you're killin' me!

Good luck on this one to Turge, a man who works his ass off...

ETA: is the presumption that the Premium dudes have solid inside information? Like I said, you're killin' me! Thanks...

  • I don't care what anyone says, their minds were made up a long time ago. Maybe each has a difference of opinion and they needed to sell one of the three (twins or dad) on a point or topic. That's all I can see happening here. This recruitment is unique in that you have three very interested parties that all needed to be pointed to the same school. Most times it's up to a single kid making the decision - here it's much more complicated.
    .
Win or lose, I must say this has been a fun ride. But it will feel like a nut punch if they choose Kentucky. One feeling Terp fans know too well.
