Pretty damn good pickup there. Nice to see. Think he was an OC in the NFL at one point too.

This is an interesting article from 2007 predicting that Crowton will get worse as time goes on at LSU, and lo and behold, he was right. Apparently Crowton gets worse each year at each stop. Good news for 2011 though.
Also, don't search for Crowton on twitter if you want to stay positive about this hire.

Here's a link to the Baton Rouge paper with quotes from Crowton saying he accepted the job.
And here's a quote that people will be happy hear about the type of offense he plans to run here.
"Coach Edsall offered me a three-year deal for $500,000 a year very, so it's a very good package. He wants me to install the same offense I ran at Boston College when we were there together (1991-93),at Louisiana Tech and at BYU. It's more of a wide-open style and that's very inviting to me."
Sounds like Miles was more conservative than Crowton

If Edsall is smart, he makes Crowton the new "Taafe" and makes him a 100% coach. Keep Crowton on campus, and get kids that can work in his system.
I tried being reasonable once. I didn't like it.

Lends some credence to the fact that Miles wanted to do things his way.

I'm not a "board expert," but I'm very happy with this hire, I like Crowton a lot better than most of the names that had been floating around. I'm certainly more fired up about Crowton than I would have been had Edsall brought Moorhead from UConn.

I have nothing to go by but records. I know nothing about schemes, personnel, recruiting, whatever.
He is consistently a part of winning football teams though.

A tangential issue,....I wonder whose playbook the fake fieldgoal was in: Crowton's or Miles'?

Well, he did win a National Championship with those guys, although it was in its first year. SO it's gotta hold some water that he has a good grasp on concepts and how to use the most explosive players. He came to LSU after Jamarcus Russell left right? Replacing Jimbo Fisher, correct?

Then the board experts are idiots. This guy is legit. Les was messing with his system, and when he has some of the terrible QBs they've had since Flynn left, it's not always going to be pretty. Give this guy his system + DOB and look out.

From what I understand, he was also hated by Oregon Duck fans. They wanted to run him out of Eugene.
