Edsall pleased with offense, not defense

so who are you firing to bring in someone new? remember, it's college, so you have a limited number of coaches, and if your demoting bradford back to being an LB coach only, someone has to go...

it was just an idea, I am not so sure Bradford fits here at all. But he knows crowton. I just know we need to upgrade our recruiting.

  • I wonder how much it would cost to get Frank Wilson up here.

  • I've always believed that you win in the ACC on Defense. Bradford is in a bad spot. He doesn't have the horses that a lot of teams have, and he's installing a new system and lacks depth particularly at LB. He'll be the scapegoat if things go badly,IMO.

  • Really? Our horses are better then most teams in the ACC this year.

We are thin at LB, we are playing a new system and it remains to be seen how talented we are in the secondary.

I like our "First 11" players on defense very much. After that it gets a little dicey.

So you agree we are thin? WMTerp12 is concerned with our DC. So am I. I do take some comfort in Gattuso.

    EliTerp

  • It all starts up front in college...if Gattusso can coach the kids up that will go a long way to mask the possible shortcomings of the new DC

    StewieTerp

  • Yeah I agree we are thin on D. Maybe some of the young kids will step up and surprise.

    SouthPaw22

  • a lot will be dependent on how the RS Fr and true FR in the secondary perform. They are going to see some burn. LB is scary depth wise I'm not to worried about Goree being solid. Twine and Farrand one of the two need to step up. And then we have to pray we don't have any injuries or we're going to be playing walkons

I agree with you but apparently downvoted you. Sorry

Maybe I read between the lines too much, but I had the impression that Edsall ran off Donohue and Pooler. I thought Donohue at least would run second team. What exactly was the deal with some of these kids, given the depth issue?

I think it is different for each kid. It was my understanding that Donahue didn't "accept the bit" of a new "rider" and left angry. In the case of Pooler, he was a good player who got hurt. He graduated, I think, and getting a shot at Cincinnati might just turn out well for him.

I don't think it is fair to put a value judgment on any of this as "was it good/bad or right/wrong". I knew most of the kids who left or were asked to leave the Program. None of them will be playing on Sundays, And most of them needed to graduate (a couple just needed to GTFO), and actually could, which is good for them and Edsall's APR for '10-11, and having 3 guys who are Senior walk-ons taking those 'ships helps the '11-12 APR.

Let's be honest here. J.R. for example would have wasted his last year of eligibility holding a clip board for DOB and C.J. and I believe he got his UMD degree and he got a place to compete this coming year. Pooler could have helped us or Cincinnati. Donahue wasn't buying what Edsall was selling, and he transferred. In the end, these kids came to college to get a degree, and most of them accomplished that.

The 5th year of competition is at the pleasure of the coach for most kids. The university owes you a degree if you didn't screw up while competing. That is the benefit of the bargain to the players. Kids like Cory give you 4 years of service, and once his eligibility was gone, he had his degree, and that's all he or I could ask. Same goes for all those other kids. Edsall did what he thought he had to do for his Program. As he said it's their team, but his Program and APR is handled for now for what he feels is the good of the Program.
