Edsall and DeMatha

  • “It’s odd. We have kids there that are successful currently. We’re right down the road from Maryland. I am bewildered that we haven’t established some sort of relationship “

    The Edsall way!!!

  • Gary's lawyers will be contacting you soon regarding your term "the Edsall way."

  • Edsall doesn't have connections here yet, not much of a story. It'll improve.

What in that article makes you think it will improve? Relationships dont improve because your around each other a while, they improve from reaching out even if you arent interested in what the other person has to offer.

  • Does DeMatha have a pro Do-Rag philosophy?

{Why DeMatha’s top athletes often do not matriculate to Maryland has long been a hot topic. During a visit to the high school in January, University of Maryland President Wallace F. Loh asked DeMatha Principal Dan McMahon about the subject as it pertained to basketball players.

    “It was just odd,” McMahon said. “He asked a lot of different questions about a lot of things, but that one really stuck out.”}

This is very telling about what the Athletic Department thinks about DeMatha.

Even with Franklin we got Tate and Desouza that is it... The kids that got early offers at Dematha had already chosen other schools. Basically the coach is saying "You won't get our top kids but come look at our second tier guys and Give them Scholarships so the Program looks better."

  • Elijah Brooks is a real good dude too....not a corrupt bone in his body. If we aren't making in roads there, there is some serious issues. I will say this though....if you are on his bad side it is going to be hard to get back in good with him.

maybe a good guy and probably does what is best for his kids. But right now there is no one at Dematha that has any real interest in UMD. In fact none of the kids from this years class really gave Maryland much of a look.

  • Edsall comes across as inflexible and non-social.

I just hope my greatest fears about him (lack of recruiting fortitude) are not coming to fruition.

From that article it sounds like we had no interest in his players, some of whom are being nationally recruited and are much more highly acclaimed then the guys we have brought in. Yeah that is probably going to tick him off.

Not to mention why in the hell would Hull say something like that? Really? Telling the new coach of a local power you don't even want to see any of his players? Come on...

Who has interest in us??? everyone outside of Sam Lebbie has already given a verbal to other schools. (Lebbie is pretty much all wrapped up to WVU due to his academics and he wants to get out of the city atmosphere.)Just like their entire class did in 2011 and 2010. We have gotten one big time recruit from Dematha and that is Kenny Tate. Everyone else has gone elsewhere.
Josh Wilson had offers from us Syracuse and NC ST. since 2006 we have signed 2 players from Dematha for football.

It's a new coach there, who cares what happened in the past? DeMatha had one guy commit to PSU in March, do you really think this new coach had much of a say in his recruitment?

DeMatha has multiple D1 players every year, at the very least he should be evaluating players for 2013 and 2014 if possible or at least pretend like he is interested in their players.

  • There was NO downside to Leach.

But apparently there's a huge downside with Edsall. It would just be great to be bad/mediocre for a few years. The only downside to Leach was winning big and then him imploding his career here and having to replace him with a coach who would come in and reap the benefits of Leach's winning.

  • I don't care if Dematha had 60 midget retards on their squad this year, Lee Hull should be camped out at the school a few times during the summer and whenever he can catch a workout or a practice. They're DEMATHA, they have anywhere from a few to a dozen BCS caliber recruits in any given class.

  • Not saying that we shouldn't be in there evaluating the younger kids. HOWEVER it does seem like kids at Dematha don't end up at UMD for some reason.

By giving their marginal players scholarships it increases the profile of the HS. allowing them to get more top end guys who will not come to Maryland.

Who are these players? Tate and DeSouza are on the team. Michael Williams and that RB were committed as well, even though they won't be enrolling for whatever reason.

You are never going to get every player but Maryland has had many DeMatha players on the team. Edwin Williams, Jeff Allen, etc.

They had Wilkerson who went to PSU, not exactly steered away when Maryland got a new coach and was going to be behind for any kid committing that early. Then their other big recruit went to UVA where his dad is a coach.

  • Relax everybody, I just saw Edsall on his way to DeMatha as we speak, I even took a picture:

They usually only have a few BCS guys last year is the only year since 2005 they have had a ton of recruits at the school .

I'm not going to go through and list all the kids from Dematha since 2006 that haven't ended up at Maryland.

The point of the post is that even with Franklin we were NOT doing very well at Dematha so everyone should stop acting like the sky is falling yet again....

  • Besides our best player, we really haven't done well at Dematha recently!
