  • People who think DOB wouldn't start at PSU must not have watched PSU last year.

I would assume he'd start because he's more experienced, and he's a better passer than CJ. I'd like to assume that Diggs needs a QB who can get him the ball. In any event, due to the ever present chance of an injury (especially given CJ is a runner), a school needs at least two experienced QBs. Or a hell of a lot of luck on the injury front.

I don't disagree with your analysis, but, like Jerry Claiborne before him, Rangoon often plays the wrong QB.

Wasn't Bolden at Penn State a 4* who showed some promise as a true freshman? Plus the other guy who I think is a senior. Wisconsin at least has more potential bodies, it sounds like. Stanford has something like five guys they're considering they're considering to replace Luck.

Not counting the incoming freshmen, don't we have just CJ? As in ONE QB? I don't recall that the possible transfer from NM made it to CP, or if he's eligible.

Ricky Schultz, a transfer from Shepherd WVA

Right now UMD has only C.J. and Ricky Shultz the kid who transfered from Shepherd where he didn't play. Ricky was a student manager but he is a second arm to make it through Spring Ball.

We have two incoming Freshmen in Perry Hills and Caleb Rowe, and the kid from New Mexico is not yet in school if he can be admitted at all. He's been cooling his heels in some Community College in Iowa. Is his name Dalonte Young?

From our perspective, CJ was going to get all the reps this Spring anyway because DOB was still in rehab for his injury, and that may have played into his decision to accelerate graduating too.

Oh, and I was just parroting what the Sun article had to say about Wisconsin and PSU as places where he could get early PT based on the QB's already in those schools systems.

Ricky knows the deal and that most likely he won't be on the roster in the fall. He's just helping out the program. He wants to be a coach one day...hopefully the Terps can repay the favor when Ricky is looking for a GA position.

DOB hates Fridge right? Anyway if you decided on PSU after living in MD, you don't deserve any respect. Now piss off.

Maybe after having Rangoon as a coach, he is thinking Fridge wasn't such a bad guy after all.

  • Hey Eli it is Ricardo Young that you are talking about at QB and he is a very solid recruit. I just hope we can get him in as he was one of the Top 25 QBs in the country out of high school and I think he would be eligible immediately. I wonder if it died off as I have not heard a peep about him.

That's it, Ricardo, and yes he was/is a very legitimate player if they can work out his status and eligibility.

CBS News reports: Ole Miss, which has landed a pair of former high-profile QB transfers in recent years, may land another soon.

Danny O'Brien, the 2010 Freshman All-American and former ACC Rookie of the Year, will take an official visit to Ole Miss this week, a source has told CBS. O'Brien will be joined on the visit to Oxford by Max Garcia, the Terps former starting left tackle, who also is leaving the Maryland program.

The two former starters are expected to be in Oxford from Tuesday to Thursday.

Not so fast, Penn State...Not so fast, UGA...

One walk through The Grove and he'll end up there.

Speaking as someone who's never been there, is it really anything special on a non football game day?

It is one of the Top 5 most beautiful campuses I have ever been on. The whole thing gameday or not is amazing...And yes the women are just absurd.

O’Brien visits Penn State too, planning for Wisconsin | CollegeFootballTalk

Yesterday, Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports noted that former Maryland quarterback Danny O'Brien would be visiting Ole Miss today as he decides his next -- and hopefully, final -- destination at the collegiate level.

Admittedly, it doesn't get much better than Oxford on game day. The Grove is a wonder. We have nothing that matches it. Few Universities do.

The guy who made ralph move from QB to OL might have been the premiere actually.

    That was SABAN!

Lou Saban that is! He put a linebacker, Alan Pastrana at quarterback and Pastrana was "pretty damn good"!

  • But it is not just The Grove. The campus itself is incredible and the downtown square is awesome.

Lou Saban that is! He put a linebacker, Alan Pastrana at quarterback and Pastrana was "pretty damn good"!

In 1965, under coach Tom Nugent, Alan P. played linebacker. The following season, Lou Saban took over as head coach from Nugent ( who invented the "I" formation, a precursor to today's pro-set formation) and held open quarterback tryouts that included anybody who had played the position in high school, whether or not they were on the team. One of my fraternity brothers even tried out. He lasted one day, or so I remember.

Early in the 1966 season, in a move reminicient of Coach Edsall's approach, Lou Saban dismissed several players from the team, saying that they were "not good enough to play for Maryland," including the former starting quarterback, Phil Petry. Pastrana got the QB job at that point.

After losses to Penn State and Syracuse, Pastrana led our sucky Maryland team to an unbelievable three-game winning streak over Duke (when they were actually competitive,) West Virginia, and South Carolina before we fell apart. I had a side line pass that year and it was not a happy place toward the end of the season. Saban left at the end of the year to coach the Denver Broncos and local hero ( a fellow North Jersey guy) Bob Ward ( may he R.I.P.) got the job.

As to RF, he was moved to fullback first, then OG, a tough position for him since, he said, he had never blocked anybody before, including his few plays at fullback.

BTW, speaking of Pastrana and New Jersey, during his time as QB he was dating a beautiful cheerleader from north Jersey who later on married a Redskin cornerback. She eventually wised up, gave up former football players and married a lawyer.
