This is why I'm leaning Dez right now. Though Len was clearly not at the top of his game yesterday and still managed to get 16 and 9 no problem
It's kind of silly to even compare a 7'1 center and a 6'5" guard. They're both very good players and we are VERY lucky Dez Wells was ruled eligible.
Agreed but that is the nature of a message board. It really is an awesome problem to have.
We are definitely very lucky for that. This team without Wells would be significantly worse, and it would have been a shame next year to see Wells and think what if with Len in the league.
This team has pieces. I predicted we would make the Elite 8 a month back. How many teams out there really have our size, depth, and overall team athleticism. That alone wins you games. I just hope when we have a WTF loss, and we WILL have at least one, that people don't go nuts. Young teams are often super frustrating like that.
That's why I said Dez for backcourt and Len for front court. They're both pretty complete players IMO.
Michael Jordan and Sam Bowie?
I've never seen such a balanced deep team at Maryland, which is incredible when you consider our team last year. Part of me wants to know how deadly this team would have been with Stoglin, one of the most talented scorers I've ever seen, but I know he may have hurt this incredible chemistry we have. You've got to go with Len and Wells even though neither are truly dominant yet. We basically have Len, Wells, and 8 Mouton type players that won't make headlines but are very solid. By the end of the year I think Mitchell rises above the rest and becomes clearly our 3rd best player. He's basically an inexperienced Charles Barkley. Seth Allen has the potential to get more minutes than Faust. Faust has proven he's useful but not that he's indispensable. Pe'Shon is #1 in assists and A/T in the ACC! There is so much to love about this team.
I loved Stoglin, but we are definitely better off without him this year
I am giving the slight edge to Dez for the contributions over the course of the season thus far. Len can dominate a single game if motivated. I honestly believe that if we have a chance at beating Duke this year he will have to have an absolute monster game - i.e Joe Smith at Cameron in 95' 40-20 type performance which he could pull if firing on all cylinders. But as other posters have pointed out Dez is the leader, has a great motor, is an elite finisher and can match up defensively with just about any type of guard he faces. The team seems to feed of his energy nightly and for that I give him the nod as best player for the team. Although I absolutely think that Len has a great future ahead of him and could turn into an elite player at the next level if he progresses as he has at MD.
