Losing in the Final 4 certainly sucks, but the journey of getting to the Final 4 is pretty damn good. So I can certainly understand the point that he's trying to make.
Especially when you look what we've done since our NC.
1. Motion offense versus flex offense
2. Defenders switch off picks (at least at 1-3) versus never switching
3. Defend the 3 ball at expense of doubling down on post
4. Force dribbler to baseline rather than middle
5. Press strategically rather than as a basic defense
6. Boxing out versus never going for ball
Hogie, I've read your posts for more than a decade now going back to ACCboards.com.
While you are an entertaining poster,
you have a way of stating things that are fact purely in hindsight....and you make it sound as if you have been right all along.
It's like you think you are have this 6th sense of being highly critical at the right time and place when really you do all your talking in hindsight.
The real comparison between Gary and Turge is that Gary produced a bunch of my happiest moments as a sports fan and I will always be grateful for that. Turge is brand new and has not yet done anything to bring any kind of happiness to me as a MD fan.
Its the difference between being eternally grateful and cautiously optimistic.
Gary has shaped me as a sports fan.
His style/personality ... it's something I identified with as a sports fan. Was a hardcore Terp bball fan starting in middle school in the mid 90s. Dude was my hero.
That's cool..Just didn't understand at first. No matter what criticism one may have of him... he was a hard core emotion filled coach for sure.
I don't take things for granted.
That's actually something I never thought about. I'm far more emotional about Maryland Basketball than any other sport and that might have something to do with Gary being such an emotional guy.
Unless you win it all every loss in the tournament is soul crushing whether opening round or Final Four. So the question is do you take one National Championship and 3 trips to the NIT or four final fours. Would the Buffalo Bills give up their four trips to the Super Bowl for one win and no other trips to the Super Bowl. I imagine they'd take one Super Bowl win. I'd probably agree.
Let's see. If Parker, Pankey and Faust were on the bench that would leave 4 scholarship players and one walk on the floor. It's not maybe he has no choice. It's HE HAS NO OTHER CHOICE.
Roy coaching tree. what's not to like. hehe.
Turge sideline jumping jacks tonight = Gary UVA a few years back
No. That is an all time moment for me. I like that Turge was pumped, but when Gary went nuts it was AWESOME.
