tstoglin12 Terrell Stoglin
Never tweet after a loss. not a bad dude just frustrated. Love terpnation! My fault
21 minutes ago
He should be benched next game to teach him a lesson. #Turge
I think Stoglin drove three times today, was blocked, missed a floater and was fouled.
Almost everything else was from beyond the free throw line and he was taking shots early in the shot clock, without even letting an attempt of a set play. In a close game against Duke you have to shorten the game and keep them from going on runs.
I have no problem with the benching. When the team goes over the tapes, he'll see why he was benched. There are two ways he can handle this, learn from it, or shut himself off from the coaching. Hopefully he learns from it because he's just a sophomore and can be one of the best Terps if he hangs in for a couple more years.
Been saying it all season.....the John Gilchrist Cancer Clock ticks another minute towards midnight. This will not end well and I'm willing to bet whatever you want on that. Turge isn't going to put up with any player's bullshit.
ill bet your life on it, stfu
that's what I figured, just frustration. I'm sure he's more pissed about having a rough game and being on the bench than being benched for unknown reasons.
JG#11 Won an ACC Tourney for #TerpNation!!!
Come on out and get your whoopin!
Did Seth Greenberg hijack peoples account????
stoglin never takes a charge
a good terp fan would definately have posted this and started this thread....good idea to bring attention to it
Thank God there was no way for me to make my thoughts immediately available to everyone when I was a 20 year old. I think back to what went through my head then and the things I said and wonder how it was people in positions of authority didn't just gather together and beat me to a bloody pulp.
Stogs is a confident 20 year old with some real talent for PLAYING basketball. When he realizes there are people around him who KNOW basketball better than him and trusts them he will find less and less frustration in the game.
Think back to the old stories of Juan calling Gary at 11:00 at night because he saw something in an NBA west coast game and wanted Gary to explain it to him.
Agree 100% OregonTerp
Stogs' comments (tweets) are in the public domain. If the Team was nationally relevant, he would have been quoted on Sports Center.
NP with the OP.
I'll support Turge if he benches Stogs next game. Hopefully the kid learns an important life lesson- speaking out when you are really angry is usually not wise. If Stogs watches a tape of that game, I can almost gtee he would say he got exactly what he deserved.
I love Stogs. He is not afraid. HOWEVER- if teams are going to make stopping him their #1 objective; and run 2 defenders at him the entire game, he may want to try and decoy and dish.
His behind the back pass to Pankey (?) was awesome.
I believe the pass went to Padge....... There was, of course, no assist earned.
He's not a good point guard because he doesn't make his teammates better offensively. The offense was stalling while he was in there, and then when he came out it was more fluid. Faust and Parker seem to work well together but seem lost when Stoglin's running the show.
No problem with the "benching." Good on Stoglin for rescinding the tweets. I just hope he's not on a Gilchristian path.
These players are smart - they've played at high levels all through high school and even before.
Why can't this team get the bigs into the game more. Duke was coming up and trapping the guards high all night - why did it work - because the guards won't pass the ball immediately to the big rolling. 4 on 3 is much better odds of making Duke pay for doing this.
I like all our players - I just wish they'd play a little more unselfishly, When they do that they play better. Worse thing Stogs can get into his head is that he is the 4th leading scorer in the nation - being the cog that runs a good team should be more important.
He is not a PG. That is the problem (aside from the rest of our current roster make up). It is a chicken or the egg debate. If we had legit production from the point and our bigs he wouldnt have to be 90% of our offense. At the same time he has a lot to learn in being a complete player and teammate. We all knew this was coming before the season, it just sucks getting through this year until we are closer to where we want to be, for Stogs and as a team.
I think the issue here is that he took his beef public. You take twitter out of this and nothing out of the ordinary happened here. It's just there have been rumblings of Turge and Stog not getting along so as fan base we are hyper sensitive to anything having to do with this.
Really though how is this situation that bad?
Your star players is pissed off because he didn't get enough playing time.
That's all this is. In and of itself it's a positive.
I think Turge is smart enough to coach the best out of Stog. We can only hope that Stogs is willing to listen and adjust accordingly. This is highly dependent on if Stogs believes Turge is looking out for the best interest of the team AND Stogs. Otherwise this will not end well
John Gilchrist all over again...
Fuck you guys, I still love John Gilchrist.
So do I, that's why I posted my favorite Terp video. Who said they didn't?
I know he's not a natural point guard, but he's the one bringing the ball up and starting the offense. "If we had legit production..." doesn't explain it entirely, because no matter when he gets the ball he is looking for his own shot and his passing the ball is either a consequence of his not being able to create his own shot or thinking "maybe I should pass the ball now." We're not going to be competitive until he learns how to drive and dish or use the attention that he commands to create opportunities for other players.
maybe someone else can answer this, but Andy Pollian made mention the other day that someone "inside" the program said they cant wait till Stoglin graduates... what is up with that?
