This is the type of post I've seen in the past, with football as well. Takes everyone of some substance who signed elsewhere, and blames the staff for whiffing. Does not at all allow for:
1. Some of the ''whiffees" won't turn out to be anything special.
2. Some of the guys who do sign will turn out pretty well.
3. ALL schools whiff on lots of guys...admittedly, KY basketball does it less than others.
4. In most cases, your ''whiffing'' tries to imply that Maryland could have gotten them, if only the staff had done...exactly what? Recruited them harder? Bribed them, which the Terps don't do. Look, the Harrisons, McGary and Jefferson, would have been taken by virtually/literally ANY major program in the country. By your measure, everyone else ''whiffed'' on them as well, except for the one school they committed to. By the same logic, we could wind up ''whiffing'' on Jordan and even Peters, even if the twins hadn't closely considered the Terps.
Wells and Smotry are desirable recruits, and I bet most posters are thrilled we got each of them. Look, no one knows how these first two classes will turn out for Turge. But to compare the above two transfers, Cleare, Layman, Mitchell and Allen, to Gary's most recent class of Gibbs and Breunig, is just bizarre. Note, I'm not including Faust since Turge had to re-recruit him. And DID so successfully.
The post was in reference to how guys are praising the staff for going at the big targets.
wasting time recruiting players you basically have no shot at is not only a waste of resources and time, it is a whiff
you swung at a pitch outside of he strike zone and go back to the dugout staring at the ground wondering why you did it it
of course all recruits are a craps shoot...but over time, those in the top 20 are usually at least a solid 4 year starter

"Dwayne Morgan looks like he'll be top 10 in 2014. If you can lock him down and get Roddy peters in 2013, all will be forgotten."
Whiffing on twin guards that Under Armour's useless asses dumped money into will not be forgotten
even if the harrisons go on to be garbage, we will remember it as a big waste of time forever
Are you this dumb in real life or do you just play an idiot on the interwebs?
maryland hoops is going to be good this year. watch.
Nice article on espn on Turgeon 's recruiting. Basically says that you just need one big time recruit to commit and you move your program up a notch and find it easier to gain others. Pretty much the opposite of umd 's approach. We will see whether or not Turgeon knows what he is doing. As a 2 time coach of the year I 'm betting he does.
what a stupid post
After seeing coach squeeze 17 wins out of a team with only 2 scorers, no PG, a big who at the time was a project, and very little else my vote is yes he can coach pretty damn well.
recruiting the best players should always be PRIORITY #1. I don't care where they are.
Not dissing this coach, but other than Notre Dame, and maybe Miami, is there another win from last year any average high school coach couldnt have produced with as bad as the ACC is + the usual Dec cupcake helpings?
