I don't disagree, honestly. I'm in no position to second-guess a professional coach, but I see some stuff going on that does have me wondering...
seemingly more than half of the crowd here have major problems with Turgeon's coaching this year. I'm one of them, but certainly am not carrying the torch. I posted a link.
I totally agree with the article! Guess what, the truth hurts! Gary would have danced with this team 8 seed at worst.
Also that awful out of conference schedule is bullshit! Play top flight competition take your lumps and get better as playing the best will only make u better!!!
Of course Turge should be criticized for his lack of coaching this season. His rotations are awful, mass substitution every 2-3 minutes, doesn't really get players in a groove. Anyway, I'll give him two more years before I start calling for his head. If by then he is still a bubble team/1st round exit, then it'll be a huge problem.
Fire the Turd!!!
I'm done arguing with these people. In two years, they will look like idiots. Or maybe I will. Time will tell. But the criticisms in this article are ridiculous.
It's a link from FanSided, which is basically a less successful Bleacher Report. So why would you post it?
LOL no. Gary went to the NIT multiple times with better rosters than this one.
GW had a losing record in the Big 10 while at Ohio State. He finished no better than 6th place. Yes I know he signed JJ.

He also went no where in 2010 - 2011 with PH and Stoglin leading the way!
If Turgeon simply said in his introductory press conference that we would take a few years to rebuild, I would be fine with the poor results we've had for the last 2 years, but Turgeon didn't say that.
Instead, Turgeon said "my style of play is simply “winning.”" (LOL!) So when he doesn't win immediately, he deserves any and all criticism he may get for not living up to his claims.
Personally, I really don't see a bright future with him at all. He doesn't seem to utilize the strength of his players and he doesn't seem like he can make adjustments very well during games.
What an uninformed piece of garbage. I'd be shocked if that "writer" has seen the Terps more than 3 times this year.
Which of our players coming into this year was a proven above average ACC player? The 4 freshmen? No. Peshon? Lol no. Aronholt? No, very good player at a much lower level who filled a need but not proven at this level. Padge? No, seems like a hard worker but not talented enough to be even an average ACC starter. Len? World of potential but unproven. Faust? Had a nice freshmen year during which he was a solid ACC player. Dez? Played very well as the 4th option on a good team in a lesser conference. Certainly not proven as an above average starter at this level going into this year.
That was the returning talent. So we were pinning our hopes that one returning player who was solid as a freshman in the ACC was going to carry our team? And guess what- it wasn't our freaking birth right that we even got Dez or Logan. Turge and his assistants and some lucky circumstances that made Dez available made that happen. If we don't land them then we would be seeing what a major rebuild is truly like. The announcers nailed it during the broadcast Wednesday- we are much further along in this rebuild than anyone could have realistically expected 2 years ago, and now some Terp fans are getting greedy.
You are basically the same as the joeblacks and jdgregers of the world when it comes to turge. You have taken every single opportunity to bash him culminating in posting this garbage article. All the while chiming in with your "well this never would of happened with GW....." posts. It's tired and annoying. Play dumb if you want but just shut the fuck up for a bit about turgeon. He's the coach.
And thats not even his worst coaching job. He went to the NIT with a senior James Gist and a soph Greivis Vasquez by going 1-5 down the stretch and losing to world-beaters such as VT, Clemson, Miami, Virginia, BC.
The teams GW sent to the NIT in 05 and 06 are very comparable to this one and probably better.
Just pick and choose what you want to talk about though. I'm sure that threads like this written by hacks on bullshit sites really add a lot to the discussion!!!
This and the post about Alex Len's "lottery" status being based on who he may be, not who is is now, pretty much sums up how I feel.
Guys this team is simply not good. Yet. But if you really can't see all these freshman, as well as future additions, will improve over time then you are just reacting to what you saw and not looking realistically ahead.
It will be amazing how well the team will be coached when the players stop making horrible passes. And yes Dez Wells is a major offender.
Sounds like Edsall's press conference.
Also, like Edsall doesn't utilize strength of players (moving Tate to LB, moving mackall to Dline, moving DJ adams to siberia, etc)
I just think Turge overestimated the ability of his freshman and his coaching style vs the ACC.
I hope he evolves.
I don't troll the internet reading sports too often. Genuinely thought it was an SI article. Someone forwarded it to me, I passed it along.
Despite Bower's implications, I understand the ridiculousness of the fire Turgeon crowd and I've supported him the whole time. I have also expressed some issues with his coaching decisions (or lack thereof). However I've done it in a more respectful way than Bowers did about one of his own teammates. I'm not looking backwards with this program and I've not mentioned Gary once. The closest I've come is to say that I miss the flex offense, or any offense really.
Turgeon's a big boy. He can take some criticism from a message board, an even an article. It comes with the game and hopefully makes him a better coach. That's what we all want.
You need to ease off the pedal Willbo. You have some imagined grudge between us and it's pretty transparent in this thread.
While I agree that Gary would have gotten THIS team to the dance...Gary wouldn't have had the players Turgeon did. That's the problem we have...one coach could get everything from his players but couldn't/wouldn't recruit and Turgeon seems to struggle with in-game coaching but is a far better recruiter. Honestly, neither would have made the tourney this year because this year's team under Gary wouldn't have had Dez or Mitchell or Allen or Layman. Instead we would have still had Parker and Pankey and a couple last minute scrubs out of nowhere. Would Justin Anderson have been good enough to compensate? I doubt it.

9/21/2010...RIP Old IMS.
GW was not some God coach. He failed with more talented teams than this one. It's hard to win with a rudderless ship. See 2010-11!
Most of the excuses for the teams struggles are 100% legit and anyone calling for heads is absolutely jumping the gun. In a vacuum, they all make perfect sense. Where they start to break down is when you look at the individual games, games against teams just as flawed, if not more. This is also the worst fundamental team i have ever seen in my over 30+ years of watching maryland basketball, by far. Unforced errors are going to keep this team out of the dance and there has been precious little improvement throughout the season. Some of that has to reflect on the coach. Bottom line, it is too early to judge but it is hard to like what you see on the court.
FIRE JOHN CALIPARI! UK'S ON THE BUBBLE WITH ALL THOSE TALENTED FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES! HE STINKS!
Seriously - I don't care what logo is at the top, it is not a Sports Illustrated writer, and if you want to be accurate the subject of the topic should be changed

Yeah, that's the most aggravating part of this thread -- the implication that the author of the blog post has a clue and any credibility on the subject. He's some dude on public access in Syracuse.
Not very interesting.
