Mark Turgeon once quipped during his introductory press conference at Maryland that his style of play is simply “winning.” If only he brought that p
I love the people who point to the fact that we have a "lottery pick" on our team as evidence that Turgeon has squandered talent. Alex Len is a lottery pick based on future projections only. He's not a lottery pick because he is a great college player as a sophomore. He's not even going to be any better than 3rd-team all-ACC at this point. He may be a great player some day, but saying Turgeon is wasting a lottery pick is just way too simplified and not telling the whole story.
I'm not sure I get the criticism.
It was just about "customizing" a point guard to fit his system? So Seth or Pe'Shon would be fine if only they'd have been "customized" appropriately?
How about "customizing" Len into Wilt Chamberlain?
Maybe Jeff Jones should "customize" his point guard into Chris Paul.
I guess it's all about this magical "customizing" skill.
It's too early to bury Turge, I think, especially given that the program was at less than zero when he took over. Maybe it's lame rationalization, but I think I was expecting too much this year from a team of rookies. I do think they'll get it together next year, when so many players will have so much more experience and growth under their belts.
I'll start to worry after another year of floundering.

It's too early to bury Turgeon, but I really don't know how anybody can defend his job performance this year. We haven't improved at all since the new year.
And I've already started to worry.
Go away, KA!
It's also way too simplified to act as if Len being "all potential" is something that exists completely independently from the Head Coach. In fact it's precisely the point of the article - that players who objectively are talented aren't producing results commensurate with the talent.
If Alex Len goes to the NBA next year and blows up as a Rookie it will be interesting to hear what people have to say around here.
Come on out and get your whoopin!
This is part of the problem. GW left him with head case Stoglin and a bunch of nothing. I wish MT would just come out and say it.
He's a decent ACC big man right now. Poor footwork, average post skills at best, good defender (although a lot of that has to do with his size), good shooter. But he's much better than he was last year. And will be much better next year if he stays (not that he will). I really don't think it has much to do with the head coach at this point. I think it has more to do with really weak guard play and a lack of shooters to combat the double and triple teams. I guess you can blame that on Turgeon if you want.
They will say he's now playing with NBA level talent and shooters and not being double-teamed every night. college basketball is nowhere close to a big man's game. You win with guards and shooters. Last night was a good example of that.

Len should be better and more dominant. He has shown flashes but net net, he hasn't made a huge jump from last year.
Its too easy and convenient to balme all our problems on the lack of a quality point guard and youth. Where were these glaring deficiencies against Kentucky, NC State, and Duke.
Turgeon created the problems with Stoglin.
I don't think Turge is a bad coach. I don't think he's used to being in this position. When he took over A&M, they had top 10 talent and were pre-season #7. Gillispe left him stocked.
I didn't realize Turgeon was Stoglin's dealer.
Author clearly saw the duke game and nothing else, as far as Len is concerned.
My gut tells me that Alex will be a really good pro.
Just a feeling,,,
You know, you claim to know the story and even post your inaacurate BS on the other board as a moderator. Why don't you tell everyone your side of the story and exactly where your info came from? Trash the kid simply because you didn't like him and state it that way but dumping comments like you know something is childish.
Sorry to ruffle your feathers, but I thought it was pretty common knowledge. What part of suspended for violating university policy is confusing you? If you have a problem with what I post, there's a pretty simple solution. Hopefully, some day you'll get over your Stoglin man crush.
Obviously, the story is not common knowledge. You make alot of assumptions when you post negative things about kids that choose MD. Its pretty sad.
I've seen less biased pieces written about Mitt Romney in WaPo and NYT. Not sure where that guy's axe to grind comes from.
Give me a list of all the "kids" I post negative things about. Stoglin's story has been well- chronicled on this and other boards. I just don't feel the need to say "if we only had Stoglin" every time we lose a game. He's gone and, no, he's not one of my favorite all-time Terps. Great scorer, though.
Turgs ran our best player, not only best player, but our best player by a zillionth degree, out of town.
He thought his style of coaching, recruits, and returning players would compensate. He was dead wrong and they are a turd sandwich, a wet turd sandwich.
Also, he was a little sensitive this year with his comments to the media and throwing players under the bus. He was awful all year with timeouts, player rotations, and awful with in game adjustments.
He was a doofus coach that coached like his doofus football counterpart. His doofus players were a product of his doofus coaching. Yes he was left with a turd sandwich team, so I give him one more year.
They were a turd sandwich with Stoglin! IMO MT biggest issue was believing PH and SA could run the team. This was a MAJOR mistake on his part!
Its easy to say what if but I'd bet we'd be a lock for the tourney if Stoglin were still here. Imagine no double teaming Len.
len looked all- world against non-conference opponents. any one have the splits on those games? hyphen.
Did he light all his bongs and joints for him or something?
Shhhhhhh. That's a secret.
I have no doubt we'd be better this year with Stoglin. And I'm still glad he's gone.
Next year is going to be a real battle to make the tournament again, I'm afraid.
The ACC is going to be the toughest basketball conference in history next year.
