I've heard the FB team will be holding practices at various locations around the state this season, but I can't find any of the particulars. I saw an article on TOS, but could not access it. Nothing on umterps.com either. I recall posting about this last spring after seeing that UVa was doing it and I caught some flack from a few on here. Glad RE has seen the potential benefits of this from the PR and Recruiting angles.
From what I know about RE, I expect these to be closed practices.
In an effort to expand their visibility throughout the region, the Terps will move two practices off-site to Dunbar High School in Baltimore (March 30) and Middletown High School in Frederick (April 6). Both will be open to the public.
Seems like Edsall wants to continue this practice into future seasons, and will change the location each year.
“We want to grow our brand throughout the area and throughout the state,” Edsall said. “I just felt it was important for us to go out and reach out to the community rather than having them come down here and just, like I said, try to grow our brand more in different parts of the state. We hope to move them around each year, but this year we just felt, wanted to get up into Baltimore because we’ll be playing West Virginia up at M&T Stadium this year.
“Then the one thing is, I wanted to establish more of a presence out in the western part of the state, in Frederick and Hagerstown or people from Pennsylvania can drive down to see us there. Just all part of developing the brand in terms of Maryland pride and being out in the community.”
"I like fixing broken things" - Kevin Plank
This is a great idea. I plan to hit the one in Frederick.
Thanks. Middletown just happens to be my old High School and has gone from having No Football Team when I was there to consecutive State Championships. Go Knights! Have to clarify though that it is definitely Not in Frederick. It is, however, in Frederick County; just about 8 or 10 Miles West of Frederick. They've been turning out some FBS talent lately and I hear we're recruiting 2 or 3 on their current team.
It may be tougher from a logistical standpoint, but would the basketball team ever consider something like this?
Basketball certainly could do it, but there is not an equivalent off season practice period and we don't struggle for ticket sales or attention so the benefit is a lot less, IMO. However, I do like the idea of an every other year Baltimore game, perhaps when a better venue is built.
Justin Falcinelli is one of our top oline targets. Probably a high 3* type with offers from Clemson, Penn State, Pitt, Rutgers, and Virginia in addition to us.
I also hear they have a very good RB, but he may have a grade problem and/or some non-football issues. The 3rd. prospect may be a TE, but I'm not really sure.
It seems to me it would be much easier to do it in basketball simply due to the numbers involved and all the equipment required for football. I absolutely think they should do it in Balitmore once per season at the very least.
Has Dunbar improved their field? Last I recall it was nothing but a dirt field with grass around the edges.
Come on out and get your whoopin!
yup...UA donated them one
