LOL at calling that NYC
There's a bar around 2 minutes from the baseball field (Sly Fox Inn) that we can spend the early afternoon at and then head over to the field.
Anyone coming via public transportation let me know. I may be able to make your life much easier, or at the very least get you guys back to the LIRR/normal subway stop afterwards.

When do the new baseball rankings come out? Is it today?
They will start to release them late morning/early afternoon today
#25 in the Baseball America poll.
The biggest story of the new rankings comes at No. 25, where Maryland joins the rankings for the first time ever. The Terrapins swept a four-game series from Manhattan over the weekend and have also won games against East Carolina and Purdue and won a series at UCLA on opening weekend on their way to a 9-1 start.
Florida continued its dominance of in-state rival Miami, sweeping the No. 15 Hurricanes, and remained No. 1 in the new Baseball America Top 25 rankings.

Last Week: 4-0. Overall: 9-1, 0-0 in ACC (2-1 vs. Top 25). Weekend Series: 2-0.
The Terrapins, off to their third-best start since 1924, swept a four-game series against Manhattan to enter the BA Top 25 for the first time in the 32-year history of the rankings. The Terrapins continued to pitch brilliantly, lowering their staff ERA to an ACC-best 0.95. Maryland got strong starts this weekend from Brady Kirkpatrick (8 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER), David Carroll (7 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K), Sander Beck (5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER) and Brett Harman (7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K). The Terps rallied from behind with two in the ninth Friday, capped by Ryan Holland's walk-off RBI single. Jordan Hagel (4-for-5, 3 R, 3 RBI, HR, 2B) had a big day in Saturday's 10-1 rout, while Matt Bosse (2-for-3, 2 R, 4 RBI, 2B, 3B) led the offense in Sunday's rout.
See how the Top 25 fared over the past week.
Oh and Brett Harman's photo currently graces the BA website.
Are Delaware, Navy or Wake any good?
I just want to beat those rednecks at Clemson. So sick of them. They have 4 losses already.
Some guy on Wake threw a no-hitter yesterday. No idea if they are any good though.
#21 in College Baseball Newspaper(LW - 27)
#20 again in PG(unchanged)
Delaware is 5-6, but just won a series against Fairfield, lost 3gms to Houston
Navy is 5-5 and really hasn't played anyone significant. (NC A&T, Air Force G-town and Central Conn.)
Wake(9-4) lost their opening series againt New mexico, but have won 8 straight. They had a kid pitch a no-hitter Sunday. they also have two midweek games against Valpo
mid week games can be crazy because pitching and lineups sometimes get shuffled.

So are we thinking they'll start Boyden against delaware and then do a staff day vs navy? We have 5 legit starters so this will rarely be an issue but I think the 4 game weeked series + 2 mid week games means a staff day unless they feel like they can throw a young guy.
#27 in the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll.
Other notable teams in the USA Today:
#51 Wake Forest
John (Ashburn, VA): Aaron: Duke has Stroman striking out 17 for Duke. Wake has Holmes tossing a no-no and Maryland is in the Top 25. Is the apocalypse upon us in the ACC?
Aaron Fitt: And Boston College and Virginia Tech are off to great starts, too. It's going to be a very competitive year in the ACC, it seems.
The Home For Baseball Insiders
made the 4th major poll NCBWA #30
Boyden - Tuesday - Home
Beck - Wednesday @navy
a couple of tibits from the BA chat for those that don't clik above:
"Wave Dat (Navarre, FL): How much more does C-USA need to win before they get more respect. Lots of C-USA vs $EC matchups the past week. USM over Bama & Auburn, Houston over Ark and TN, Rice over Tenn and Tulane over Bama (2 of 3). Is now the excuse, that the $EC is having a down year instead of giving credit where credit is due? 7-1 for the week CUSA over the SEC. We'll see if the trend continues tomorrow night.
Aaron Fitt: Ah, "no respect," that old chestnut. Southern Miss also lost a game to Purdue this weekend, which lost to Maryland last weekend, who is 9-1 and won a series at UCLA — better than anything on USM's or Tulane's resume. Another C-USA team, ECU, also lost to Maryland, at home — clearly the Terps are more deserving of a ranking than any of those C-USA teams. Alabama is down so far this y ear; they also got swept at home by Florida Atlantic, a good team but a team that just split four games with Princeton. Tulane doesn't have a series win yet against a regional team, but it has put itself on the radar, because I was already intrigued by that team coming into the year. We have Rice ranked fifth and UCF inside the top 20, but nobody else in that league has earned a ranking yet.
April. When might we see App crack the rankings if they keep winning? Also, while Maryland has played well, don't they deserve to drop out of the rankings on the basis of those hideous camo + red uniforms?
Aaron Fitt: It's great to show appreciation for the troops, but those unis are awful — sorry coach Bakich! I think if App keeps rolling through March and can handle itself in those midweek games you mentioned and win the Citadel and Elon series, it has a chance to crack the rankings"
I think the Camo unis. are the best attempt at camo unis i've seen. the Red/yellow has a Marine feel
People (especially women) are dumb. No one cares what camo jerseys look like, that's not the point. Yeah, lets hate on something that's intent is to support our troops. And even so, I think they look pretty solid, along with the rest of our uniforms.
I guess when you're an elite team like Maryland baseball obviously is, people are going to find anything to hate on.
Actually, April refers to the month as the guy was asking about when App state might get ranked. It was a cut and paste mistake.
The all black jersey they wear on Friday are my favorite. The yellow on sat are growing on me. I still like the white old fashion uni with Maryland script(i don't think they have worn them yet this year). The black UM hats are sweet. I like how the team all wears the the unis the same
People love to rip on Maryland uniforms these days, it's the thing to do.
Was listening to the baseball America college podcast and they talk about Maryland for a few minutes. I'm posting from my phone so I don't have a link but you can find it on iTunes or their website. The Terp talk starts around the 14 minute mark.
They said one big reason they ranked Maryland was the wins we got hold up. UCLA, ECU and purdue have all been great except for their losses to us.
They also talk right after that about how deep the acc is. They said the acc could actually get 9 in the NCAA tourney
A little off topic, but since when are people obsessed with critiquing uniforms? I saw some sports website with the worst basketball jerseys and most of the jerseys on there were "normal" and not out there at all. These uniforms (football pride, baseball camo, etc) aren't meant to be worn by victoria's secret fashion models. They are meant as COLLEGIATE JERSEYS. They are meant to be flashy. God forbid if they happen to support the United States armed forces or a state flag
I'll preface this by saying I know basically nothing about the history of NCAA baseball, or any sport except football and basketball for that matter. But has a team ever missed its conference tournament and then made the NCAA tournament? In baseball, or any other sport for that matter? That seems insane.
eamhokie94: Is your name Nazi in pig Latin?
Two (I think) years ago one ACC team made the ACCT as an 8 seed but missed the NCAAT while the 9th best team (record-wise) got in.
Just something to talk about, like power rankings or best [insert tv show/food/movie] tournaments.
you are correct. UNC and BC both had 14-16 ACC records in 2010 but BC made the ACCT. UNC non conf. record was 22-4 and they made the NCAAs while BC was 15-10. The interesting thing is that UNC non conf sched. wasnt that impressive.
a good site for scores and archives is d1baseball.com
In the 2010 season, UNC missed the ACC tournament, but still made it to the NCAA regionals as a #3 seed. People always talk about RPI in college basketball during March Madness selection time, but most people don't realize it matters in college baseball as well. Hence the case of UNC in 2010.
