Exactly. With those 3 new players and and an extra year of experience for this extremely young team we're going to be great next year either way.
Of course if hell froze over and Len did come back we might be the best team in the country rather than, say, top 15.
It would be nice if we can stick it to the ACC in our final season.
Senior Padget + lottory pick Len >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Junior Smotrycz + Freshman Dodd
I think whether we are great or not next year depend on how Shaq and Chuck progress this season. Either way I think we are going to be fine without Len.
Allen will be better, Layman will be better, Wells could be an All American cadidate next season. We'll be better but how much is a mystery.
Padgett, Len and Aronhalt vs. Dodd, Smotrycz, Peters plus improvements from the freshmen and Wells and Faust. That's the question.
We are going to be so small next year
I laughed harder at this than anything hogie has ever said.
The only way Alex stays is if he sees this post and has met hogie.
Worked after Joe smith left.
Cleare and Smotrycz and Dodd and Mitchell? And Layman and Dez and Nick providing wing support? To say nothing of the fact that our early-season rebounding likely reflects more than just height and wingspan.
Chuck is going to average a double-double next year.
With Shaq and Chuck getting another year of experience and improving, and the additions of Dodd and Smo, there shouldn't be much drop off in the rebounding department.
With our luck he'll get drafted by Boston.
I doubt that many would give all that up for Kate Upton, much less school.

I know I'm a bit of a homer, but I think we're a final four contender this year. Screw next year. This team has depth and talent galore.
Wish in one hand and shit in the other. See which one fills up first. HE GONE
I think I'm generally pretty realistic and sometimes on the pessimistic side and I am on record in the prediction thread saying we make the Elite 8 this year.
The thing that will be tough is that with any young team I think we lose some games we shouldn't because we don't have QUITE enough to just slide by against average teams when we don't show up. For that reason if I had to guess I would say we end up with somewhere in the 5-7 range seeding wise. That makes it tough.
Never know though. If some things bounce right I think it could happen.
Len ain't comin' back though. Especially if we end up making a run like that because a big part of it will have to do with him.
SLT, I'm basically the only one who thinks he might stay. And I don't know diddly about it.
Is there ever anybody in the locker room ever thinking stuff like "Man, college is fun, I've got plenty of years to be in the NBA traveling to Sacramento and Cleveland, I'm staying here for another year!" ?
Probably not, now that I'm reading it back...
If Len stays
Harrison Barnes, Terrence Jones, Jared Sullinger, Perry Jones etc all had that same thought process. It seems like its becoming a lot more common in recent years. We have the added advantage of Len just getting used to life over here, really liking UMD and his teammates, and thus maybe not wanting to move again so soon.
Don't get me wrong, its obviously far more likely he's not back next year than he is, but I don't think it's nearly as much of a done deal as people are saying
We could be that 4 or 5 seed that improves all year, plays their best at the end of the year and makes it to the Final Four. I expect to win a game or two in the tourney this year. You're right, amazing how quickly Turgeon has assembled a roster with legit depth.
I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?
I think the NBA projections are a little over-hyped. He won't end up as a top 5 prospect. He is getting his college legs right now and needs an additional year of development.
We should be l33t 8 this year and final 4 next year or better.
I agree. Just look at how well these guys can play together this early in the season. Imagine what they'll look like in a few months.
