Student section was fantastic for the first half. It was basically 80% full by kickoff, got up to 90% in the first quarter. I was legitimately impressed. But about half of them left at halftime.
The rest of the crowd......yeah.
I don't know, I was actually surprised how many people were there. Labor Day weekend + the heat + a noname FCS opponent... I expected worse.
Welcome to 1995Terp's world.
eamhokie94: Is your name Nazi in pig Latin?
Sweet, so our AD actually did something right!
"I like fixing broken things" - Kevin Plank
Well we have decisions to make here if we are to enter the 1995Terp's World. I give you these 3 spin choices to choose from, to start things off:
1. Our Philip Merill College of Journalism's spin on Saturday's result:
" The Terps remain undefeated after Saturday's victory over the visiting Tribe!"
2. The anti-"Rangoon" party's vision of the future:
"This Saturday an inflated announced attendence crowd of about 32,000 fans, including about 10,000 students, witnessed both the first and the last Terp victory for the 2012 season."
3. Reality sandwich view:
"People actually sitting in "Ollie's Cheap Seats" is the start of a new Terp Cult. An actual good idea lands high in the stratosphere of the Upper Deck."
Whoops, I thought the game started at 330 instead of 3, so I missed most of the first quarter. As walking up from 9c, I did see a lot of students already leaving. It was 6-0 at that point.
Overall, agree that the crowd was meh but did get loud when needed.
I think all 10k student seats are technically sold even if unclaimed.
I am not sure what to predict for attendance for the UConn game.
Both teams *could* be 2-0 (doubtful)
Do fans travel at all? Are there UConn football fans?

Edsall faces his old team
I'll guess 42,400.

we won't see anything near 40k let alone 42. UCONN will sell 1k of tickets.
I think that was a typo and he meant 32k
I'm expecting attendance to go down no matter what. First game generally always draws more fans, plus 12:30 start. Won't be good.
I'm not going to get into the middle of the Edsall battle. But I just can't relate to students bailing out after ten minutes of action and a 0-6 score. I watched every play of the game on the internet and I was pretty interested, even though I know it's a bad team that's going nowhere.
It seems like athletic departments have a much bigger challenge on their hands these days.
For a game vs W&M i thought the turnout was pretty decent.
considering this game wasnt televised why wouldnt we play early season games at night given the heat? are we too cheap to turn the lights on? apparently we have the dough for hydraulic goalposts...
From the blog Dr. Saturday: Maryland is ready for that moment when fans want to rush the field and tear down the goalposts. Whenever that moment might come. According to the Washington Post, the university installed new hydraulic goalposts to stop all those rowdy fans … Continue reading →
NYCTerp is now OCTerp
we've really become one of the laughingstocks of college football.
I hate this feeling of being Dook football. More jokes are on the Terps now. Wonder how much the goalposts cost? Terps need to start a piggy bank fund to buy out Edsall. Every improvement they don't make - money goes into the fund. Keep a running total until we reach a total enough to buy him out....
We've had goalposts that lower like that for a few years now.
"Maryland football: Where everybody gets hurt and the starting left tackle has an existential crisis."
it's a horrible feeling. We're such an easy target for anyone in the media. I found it odd that someone downvoted my post...nobody wants it to be true but the reality is that the media will be taking shots at the program all year long.
So dumb to put a game on Labor Day weekend as a 3 pm kickoff. If it's not on TV, just make it an evening game. The heat is always an issue the first few weeks.
