First two seasons

throw in Krivak too. That's about 24 of the last 27 years in complete mediocrity, and you expect greatness now.
I'm not sure why you continue this silly rationale. So we were shitting for 15 years many years ago, why shouldn't we be shitty now? Is that really your argument? if that's the case, why don't we pay shitty salary instead of $12M? why upgrade the stadium? why bother going out looking for a high profile coach? We could have hired any turd coordinator or a Div. 2 coach like we did 20 years ago.
of what stadium upgrade do you speak? What level did that upgrade us to?
Edsall was/is an arrogant windbag. we get it. But the same repetitive complaints every week and ridiculous expectations make this look like the nc state board. If you look, there's actually a lot of good young players on this team that provide some hope for the near future.
Edsall is the worst of the bunch at Maryland and I will tell you why:
1. The previous 2 before Fridge inherited a mess of a program that had ZERO advantages that the current regime had. They still had the Bias era lingering over the athletic department (especially Krivak, and Duffner) and MD had not committed to football like they have recently. The ACC has an elite team in FSU that NOBODY was beating. You were playing 11 games at the time, and facilities were way worse than current conditions with the upgrades.
2. Edsall was proven, where the other two were not. One was a local guy (northern Va and had been a good 1-AA coach at Holy Cross) and the other was a very nice man, but just not a head coach. Edsall has a 12 million dollar contract, and has failed in the worst way going 6-15. PLUS, he inherited a program that won 75 games since 2001. Developing numerous NFL players, had been to bowls, and had everything you need to compete in the down ACC. Not only has he NOT LIVED UP TO EXPECTATIONS, he has made our program feel like it is 1997 again. Yeah, we got Diggs, and a few young kids but is that what we are hanging our hats on? Maybe winning in the future?? This used to be a program of decent success but has become a fairy tail, with Edsall selling unicorns, dreams of greatness that are laughable when you are 80-85 as a head coach....Some see it, some want to dream.
3. For all you Edsall backers, there is young talent, but he deserves to NOT coach it. The next man will come in and win, like Vandy did in 97-2000 he grew it and Fridge ate it. And eat it he did....Our next coach will turn this around and Locks will fill our cabinets and Fridge....It will not be Edsall, and the sooner he is done here we will all be better off.
Not an Edsall backer. A realist. We got lucky with Fridge. He was an alumnus. He was fat, old (for a non-head coach) and not a good interviewer. But he was a genius.
Not sure what commitment to football you're talking about. Whatever it is, it pales in comparison to at least 2 schools in our division and below at least 50 schools nationwide.
Bobby Ross was a great coach. He's also primary evidence of Md's lack of football commitment. Maxed out at Cherry Bowl here but took Georgia Eff'ing Tech to a national championship.
Commitment to Maryland Football standards. Edsall has had a hell of a lot of $ put into the program that Fridge never did. Of course Maryland is in the back of the ACC for many spent on football. Why do you think Ralph bitched so much and had to beg borrow and nearly steal just to get remotely close to what he really needed.
A real coach can come in here and win. Not a national title, but win. If Jim Grobe can win the ACC at WF we can win here. Same thing goes for schools like UVA, VT, NC STATE, all of whom should be on the same level as Maryland. In the current ACC only FSU, Clemson, and maybe Miami should be well ahead of Maryland for football. Beamer built VT from nothing. You just have to find the right coach.
makes you appreciate the fat dude, no?
Like I've said, we should table this discussion until next year. Edsall would have at least tripled his win total with a QB this year. The cupboard was nowhere near as stocked for him as some of you want to believe, but he also created a lot of the mess by running off so many players. He at least deserves some support to see what he can do next year with healthy QBs. The constant negativity, especially when we're on our 5th QB, is ridiculous. What would satisfy you next year? 7 wins? 8? Just curious. I want to see at least 7 wins and a halfway decent bowl. At least one big win over a top 25 opponent. The year after that, I want us to contend for the division.
This is not worthy of a debate but the field and suites are capital expenditures, whether they produce a return or not also depend on the on field results! I have followed the program since Ross, at no peoint during that period has the school supported the program more. We are wasting any equity we finally obtained. We all get that there are some decent young guys, a lot of programs have a lot of decent young guys. We still need a ton more depth all over the place, and a ways to go before people are falling in line as believers. Just because it's enough for you doesn't mean anything, you've proven to us that your standards are low. Not everyone has those expectations. Just because we're not a national embarrassment this year is good, but let's not get carried away...the on field product is still generally bad and we understand the circumstances. Edsall is still responsible however. We can all have differing opinions but I find it funny that you are claiming to be a realist???? The reality is that right now the program is still shitty. Hopefully we'll get to mediocre to average soon.

Absolutely. He was the best coach in the country those first few years (Grobe was up there too). He didn't deserve to be fired and certainly didn't deserve the HCIW disaster that started the mess.
Well you can blame Kevin Anderson for this whole situation, and especially for alienating RF after many years of hard work at this school.
well, the next 3 weeks will be ugly and you can expect a lot of questioning the man we paid $12 mil for. I have beat the drum enough. Next year I am FULLY EXPECTING 7-9 wins with C.J. or Perry. NO EXCUSES. We will be picked 3/4 in the Atlantic behind FSU and Clemson and possibly NC State. I would think with what we have returning Wake and BC will be behind us. I have a feeling the defense will be an issue next year for Edsall and that will be his "flavor of the month" excuse for the season. Only time will tell but his clock is ticking in a big way.
I still think KA should take a lot of heat for this debacle that our program has become.
I have followed it too for a while. You can also make a case that Debbie Yow wasted years hiring Vandy instead of Fridge in 1997. The problem since Ross left is that Maryland has not hired the RIGHT guy, always screwing this up. Face it, at a school like Maryland you have to have a really good coach in place to compete each year. Fridge was that guy. He is gone, and that sucks. What we have no is a farce. It makes me sick sitting in the stands watching the crap on the field and the atmosphere in the stadium. But you are right, the debate is pointless right now. We will finish 4-8, hopefully get better and next September start over.

It's LOL funny that you people want to rip KA for firing the Fat Man, but say nothing for the bad judgement of keeping that SORRY ASS baseball program. MD baseball is a turd and will always be a turd.
Come on out and get your whoopin!
"Maryland coach Randy Edsall said Sunday that freshman receiver-returner Stefon Diggs must learn to keep his emotions in check when the opposing team provokes him. ”He can’t go and do what he did there,” Edsall said, referring to an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty assessed against Diggs during Maryland’s 33-13 loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday. Diggs appeared to toss the football at a Yellow Jackets player in the first half."
The fact that this is even on Edsall's mind after yesterday's game is hilarious. A single unsportsmanlike penalty? Diggs could spray paint a middle finger on his helmet, and Edsall should keep his mouth shut. Without his 2 TD's yesterday, the game would have been even more embarrassing.
Maryland coach Randy Edsall said Sunday that freshman receiver-returner Stefon Diggs must learn to keep his emotions in check when the opposing team provokes him.
From 2005 on Fridge was not very good. The 9-4 season was a good one but a lucky one.
Edsall is recruiting at a level that will have us having sustained success going forward. Starting next year we will be a perennial bowl team. Which is about the best we can hope for at this point.
Pic Sigs are for losers.
I'm sure No one asked him about it.. jesus christ I hate that I root for the same team as some of you.
Like how he chewed out Cam Chism on the sideline for......housing an INT? Yeah, nothing is weird with Edsall.
I'd spray paint a middle finger on your helmet but you don't get issued one for being a team manager or a crowd spectator.
He went 9-4 twice with an 8-5...so that is not good? If edsall had the record domimo u would say he was nick saban jr....get real. He is 6-15...numbers dont lie.
9-4 after 2-10 and his recruiting had gone to shit and the locals were not coming to maryland. His record blows right now but some people and you in particular make me defend him by being the biggest idiots in the entire sports universe. You sound like Liberals and right wingers, dumb black and white statements without looking at the grey where the truth lies.
Edsall is an enigma wrapped in a puzzle gray area...that we cant discern...lol. No he is just a subpar average coach who has driven the program into the ground. When he was chosen everyone on this board said he was average coach who was a cupcake killer in a terrible division. Also vandy brought in the local kids too but if ur a poop sandwich coach u will have a poop sandwich record. Diggs is Lamont Jordan v2.
75 wins in 10 years does not lie. Any gray area in that for you? 9-4 in 2006, 6-7 in 2007, 8-5 in 2008, and 2-10 in '09 followed by 9-4 in 2010. RF would crap on RE and if you subtract 2009 (yes, injuries and youth) like some of you like to subtract his first 3 years the Fat Man as you like to call him was 73-40 at Maryland. I'll take that any day at Maryland. It is sounding like you just don't like Fridge.
6-15 is 6-15. 2 straight years without a bowl is 2 straight years. Any gray area in that? Edsall does not recruit well, so Locks does it ALL for him. Who do you think got Diggs, Brown, and Reid??? It wasn't the 12 million dollar know it all.
The fridge became stale, but let's not make stuff up, the 2-10 season was the aberration, not the other way around. His teams got boring and predictable, but at this point I'd soon enough take slightly above .500 easy.
Maybe, but going into each season with a good shot at a bowl, and winning 6-9 games is cool with me. I also will take the big upset that Fridge was good at. A lot of pretty big games at Byrd between 01-10.
Face it, MD made a big mistake after the 2010 season. Some appreciate Fridge while others love to write what he did off for some reason.
