What could have been...
Thought this might be coeds out in the sun today. Sigh.
When will we ever see than many fans at Byrd again?
pretty much every awesome football stadium started out that way. and then we decided to choose the worst additions imaginable.
KOA Architects or whatever the fuck their names where should be sued for that shitfuck triple deck monster piece of shit.
He's talking about the text: Byrd considered enclosing the horseshoe and adding a second level for a 92,000 seat capacity.
Some nice pics of Byrd. Its not great but its ours. I think as Locks did in recruiting we can still save Byrd with a couple of right moves. A blind squirrel gets a nut every now and then.

So I told her come over to MySpace so she could let me play with her Twitter and Google on her Facebook.
I might be in that picture...
Embarrassing stadium. Thanks for reminding me.
im sorry i was confusing...your "Superbowl" was the Redskins losing since you know that the Ravens cant win it all.
just fucking win. just win.
Sometimes I look at that huge upper-deck and think "that's unpossible."
Sometimes I look at that huge upper-decker coaching our team and think the same thing.
"And I try to har-mo-nize with songs the lonesome sparrow sings...
There are no kings inside the Gates of Eden."
It really is something out of some brutalist, pcp-influenced nightmare.
They were the "Marland Terps" back then.
When did they change the state name back?
That's pretty much the way I remember it when I was in school. I wonder when that picture was taken?
Looks like around 1981-1983. I rememberthose endzones when I was in school.
I would think it would've been earlier since I don't see any of the north campus dorms.
Devil's Advocate: "Two-thirds of stadium seating and no upper deck and STILL can't sell out."
REPEAT...Devil's Advocate point of view only....

The source from which I got it said 1990.
Yeah, I always heard the plan was to double-deck the whole satdium. If only Jim Tatum hadn't been a UNC grad and had stuck around. Who knows where we might be now...and he might not have died so young (late 40's?) from RMSF!

I gotta think it's older than that. If nothing else, the cars inside the stadium look older.
Original plans for 92K? Who Rangooned that one?
I had no idea the capacity was 45,000 before the upper deck expansion. The capacity after was 48,055. How in the hell did that monstrosity only add 3,055 seats??
eamhokie94: Is your name Nazi in pig Latin?
Well, the text mentions a field hockey championship and our first one was in 87.
