College Football Playoff

For those college football nutjobs like me who can’t stand the offseason, this might be for you. With all the talk of a college football playoff in the news lately I decided to get creative with the only simulation tools I have: a PS3 and NCAA 12. Using the final BCS regular season standings for seeding; I have created a 24 team playoff (24 teams because the BCS standings doesn’t extend to 32) that I will simulate to see who virtually would have been the national champion. First off, I am in not in favor at all of a 24 team playoff. This is not conducive in reality. My playoff starts on December 17 (two weeks after the conference title games) and extends until January 14th. The Top 8 seeds all have first round byes and the higher seeded team will host until the semi-finals. The semi-finals will be played at the Orange and Sugar Bowls. The championship will be played at the Rose Bowl. I have gone to great extents to make this simulation as legitimate as possible including roster changes due to injury or suspension and even accurate weather conditions at the site where the games would have been played. @eam: That's good, I think you gotta give him a few years. I'm not necesarily a huge fan about what happened to Friedgen or how that whole thing appeared to be handled, but you don't want to get on a coaching carosel finding the next guy.

@JAW: So there are some Terps fans out there tired of Edsall.....I figured there had to be some. I don't know much about the guy; I watched him quite a bit at UConn but his philosophy seems to have completely changed at Maryland. At UConn it seemed like he lined up in the 'I' and ran at people, that wasn't what I saw at all last year at Maryland.

Roughly 100% hate Edsall and 1% like Edsall, with a 1% margin of error.
On the flip side, 100% of the Virginia Tech fans who have posted in this thread think he's solid.

@TFM: We'll see; another year like this year and Edsall might start developing heart problems ala Urban Meyer.

Question is, what type of buyout could be negotiated. His contract still has five years remaining at a cool $2mm per. No way the school could afford a huge buyout. Based on financial considerations alone, he's likely to be around in two years. We also signed a decent recruiting class so maybe things get better gradually. Can't get much worse. Pray for CJ Brown to remain healthy.

@NoCal: Yeah, that's a pretty large chunk of change there to overcome; give him some time though, he may suprise. There's plenty of fertile recruiting grounds around that area to tap, so he has the resources.
