Maryland DC Bradford out, my sources tell me school admin is working out contract details for the DC to be FORMER Terp HC Ron Vanderlinden
Vandy not a done deal, but being worked on
Co-defensive coords at Penn St. Ron Vanderlinden & Larry Johnson both being talked to for MD DC gig now. Weird

Well, remember, he was a good recruiter when he was here. I don't know how good he's been over the last decade, a ''minor'' detail, I realize!

Basically everybody that was on the Orange Bowl team. Vandy is one of the guys that is a good career assistant but a lousy head coach.

you could argue that his staff recruited the majority of the players on the 02 and 03 rosters as well.
Kris Jenkins, EJ, Hill, Perry, a number of OLs that made all-acc teams, Leon Joe, Ambush, Lamont Jordan, etc...I think most of the players who started their college careers in 2001 or prior were that staff's recruits.

We could do a hell of a lot worse than Vanderlinden....the combo of him and Locks is a huge step in the right direction and might seriously offset the train wreck that is Edsall.

In spite of the history here, Vandy's a class act and has been a very good assistant coach/recruiter everywhere he's been. Though I wonder if there's ever in the history of college football been a head coach that got fired and come back as an assistant coach?

If they work out as coordinators, there can't be anything better than guys that failed as HCs - they'll likely never leave to be HCs elsewhere, and why leave to be coordinators elsewhere?
Obviously there are exceptions.

Penn state fans are pissed he might be coming here, so far me likey. we need a badazz defense again . Enough of this prevent defense every 3rd down.

Based on their scout and rivals boards, they all seem to want him to stay. He's well liked over there, so that should be good. LSU and Southern Miss fans were ready to send gifts our way when we took their coordinators.

Makes sense to those of us who have tried and fallen short...Ralph did inherit a good group of talent when he got here. I upvote this as I would take me over Bradford. He is probably the worst DC the Terps have had since the late '60's and a few '90;s. Good luck to him, and glad to have RV back. Thanks to which ever Kevin arranged this (Anderson or Plank).

The problem with Vandy as a head coach is he would try to win a games 3-0 or 7-3. He was extremely conservative when he had a lead. But he got talent and there is a reason why he has been at UPS for close to 20 years. This would be a huge upgrade and arguably give us our best recruiting staff in quite some time.

I like it. Some guys are just not great leaders, but are very good at the assistant level. Richie Petitbon comes to mind, not to mention Locksley and Vanderlinden! Both can recruit, and that's critical at this point considering the thin roster.

I don't think he's been at penn st for 20 yrs.

I'm enamored with the idea of a Locksley/Baker OC/DC staff so even though Vandy is an upgrade it feels like a let down. Baker is such a perfect fit its unbelievable but entirely believable that we wouldn't pull the trigger or make it happen.
