Big East expansion

Evidently the Big East commissioners are meeting today to discuss possible expansion. I'd assume the realistic options are teams like Memphis, UCF, and ECU. What is the point, does that really improve anything to add schools like that? The author of this article throws out names like TCU and Houston as possible "innovative" options. As evidence of how bad Big East football is again, I'm pretty sure WVU's win over us is far and away the most impressive non-conference win by a Big East team this year.

TCU has been rumored for awhile. I think the BE would prefer Villanova to jump up to the FBS level so they don't have to add anymore teams.

I think that Houston and TCU are the ones that are more likely to get an invite. I don't think ECU is on the radar. Villanova may also get upgraded to 1A for football. NO matter how you slice it, none of these moves ensures the viability of hte conference in the future as any school would gladly jump to a B10 or ACC offer. Still think taht if TV networks are the way to go, ACC might want to be proactive and take Syracuse, Uconn, Rutgers and Pitt., thereby creating a true east coast conference that could possibly make a strong TV network (possibly)

18-school basketball conference. That's just way too big.

I don't see making expansion decision based on the "now" level of a program. Going forward, i think UCF is a much better choice for expansion for the BE then a TCU. Gives USF a natural rival, large state university in a big market (TCU is also in a good market), and a better geographic fit.

From just a competition standpoint, i would love to see a split... can get a very good parochial confence out of Georgetown, Villanova, St. Johns, Providence, Seton Hall, DePaul, Marquette (add Xavier, Dayton, St. Louis and possibly Duquesne, am i missing one, St. Joe's)...

WVU dude in my office is saying that therre are talks of Cuse, WVU, Pitt and UConn coming to the ACC. Of course he has a new rumor about expansion about once a week.

They should give notre dame an ultimatum..in or out for all sports. let them go to the big ten

Why would the BE do that? They benefit a lot from ND being in that conference.

so they dont have to expand the conference to get bigger in football. Add ND and villanova.

saw this in the NY times the basketball schools and coaches don't want to expand, but the football schools do

ND would never join the BE in football. If they're going to join a conference in football it's going to be the B10.
And they don't have to expand the conference if Nova moves up a level.

I really can't imagine the Big East inviting Temple. I mean they already went down that road like 10 years ago and it didn't work out.

The only chance that WVU has to be in the ACC is if the B10 decides to expand and takes one of Rutgers, Syracuse or Pitt, leaving us literally no choice but to take a WVU to get to 16, if that's the number we need. Which is even more reason why ACC needs to be proactive.

There's seriously zero reason for the Big East to stay together at this point. It's basically a loose gathering of football rejects.
Bush league moves like inviting TCU or whatever just further prove why the legit Big East schools like Syracuse belong in the ACC. They're better than this.

Big 12 already has the Houston and DFW markets. Expansion is all about gaining new markets.
