Actually Maryland looked very well prepared for that conference, so congrats to the school for good preparation. KA still doesn't quite present himself well but that won't change. He should be a behind the scenes guy.

To me it also hints at further eastern expansion eventually. It doesn't make sense to open up a second major office for the benefit of three schools (PSU, UMD, Rutgers) but for five schools it seems a bit more reasonable...

Any thoughts on who would be targets? Given the selectivity and media market focus there are not to many options, and just about all of them are ACC schools.

Pitt: pro-fits footprint and has a strong following in a good sized home city. Good enough academically to fit. Con - doesn't expand into new areas, PSU and OSU overlap.

UVA: excellent academic fit. Adds high population VA to conference footprint. Cons - poor sports product.

UNC: also excellent academics. High pop area with huge national following. Cons - possibly too far away from conference core. Highly unlikely to jump unless ACC was crumbling.

Syracuse : pros - academics. Bolsters NY market. Cons - weakish football. Rutgers overlap.

Uconn : pros - decent national following. Brings densely populated NE tv area. Would jump in a second. Cons - poor football. Stretches footprint.

Yeah I'm guessing before going to 16 , he'll give one last try for Notre Dame. Just like he did before turning to MD. If ND still doesn't see the light, then well add two more. The two best schools at that time, could be UVA, UNC. Also I don't think there will be a big push to go to 16 unless some other domino falls, like SEC going to 16. Or a few ACC schools jump to the Big 12 and causing everyone else in the ACC to look around.

Pitt- not a chance

UVA- of course

VT- probably but no package deal with UVA and vice versa

UNC- of course

Syracuse- not likely, maybe though if need another one for balance

Uconn- not a chance

BC- only in package with ND and ND gets them in at 16

Georgia Tech- I do not see it. But for 20 years they were floated as a prime target.

Florida State- not likely but why not. We all know this is a huge money grab.

Missouri- have ignored them for years just like Pitt but if pull a target and need one to round it out I could see it. The SEC I believe does not have a GORs and Missouri would leave.

ND- the would literally have to come calling and beg. An ironclad yes will be full members and NO BULLSHIT type of agreement. They will not do it. We do not care.

Yeah- it really is not that complicated. Only really a few schools who really do it.

Basically, the B1G is looking for academics (research especially), TV eyeballs, and schools in states that send a lot of their kids to B1G schools. It's why you were desired and it's why it looks like Rutgers is #14.
