3 years in: current thoughts on nationals park?

I think it is widely viewed as a well designed ballpark in terms of sightlines, modern amenities and so on but I can't help but shake the nagging feeling that they oriented the stadium in a way that does not capitalize on views of either the monuments or the river and that the park's architecture doesn't have any Washington specific flavor.
Basically I wish the park embodied the city's character like Camden yards or had a great river view or skyline view like pnc park.
How can I feel better about nationals park? It has good seats, a nice scoreboard, a nice name, some cherry trees and some isolated views of the river and monuments from a few seats but that's it.

It's a stadium. It works but it's nothing special. Once they finally get to finish the surrounding blocks it's going to be a fun ass place to go.

Umm, it does embody DC's character. Ugly, souless and vacant....Looks exactly like an alphabet soup agency building downtown.

attendance has been a disaster. doubt that a better park (or better location) would have made much of a material difference.

not to state the obvious but you know major league ballparks are oriented a certain way having nothing to do with scenery right? In general the rule book states that home plate is to be oritened East Northeast.
Its not always followed exactly, but every park with the exception of Houston orients in some way eastward. Well, there are a few that face direclty North. But In order to have any of the monuments in the "background" at Nats Park, it would have to face west or northwest and that is not going to happen. You can't face a batter into the evening sun.

They have some new riverfront parks near the stadium that are really cool and a second beer garden is opening too.
The boom in development that was expected instead will be a slow steady process.

I thought there were some rules MLB required teams to follow in terms of the direction the stadium faces.
There's no question they would have angled it in the direction of the monuments and such if it wasn't going to be an issue of sun or the MLB rule book.

Sure it could have been maybe in a better spot or better view but it is fine. Nice and new and every seat has a good view
The economy tanking hurt a lot as that half street thing and the waterfront didn't get developed like they should but in time they will. Also, just like any sports problem start winning and more will come and things will be better

The development of the area around the park coincided with the economic downturn. I'm sure it will ultimately happen.

Yeah I know there are some limitations and they could not have faced it completely west but maybe slightly Northwest or even more east to focus on the river more.
The current view of half the Capitol and random ugly buildings with a sliver of the river through the stands just pisses me off.
I also wish they didn't build the right field upper deck and left a view of the river. If we start selling out the stadium then they could build them.
