Turgeon and Williams set to Reunite

Maryland

Mark Turgeon and Roy Williams will coach against each other for the first time Saturday when North Carolina comes to College Park for a 4 p.m. tip against the Terps.

Mark Turgeon has never coached against his mentor Roy Williams, who he worked under as an assistant at Kansas from 1988-92. That will change Saturday against North Carolina.

^I know that's going to come out a mess on this board. But so basically, Carolina has gone with an 8 man rotation. They lost Strickland for the year. No clue on Barnes' status. I'm sure they have the Hubert's of the world they can steal minutes from (you know all those guys that would get run at most colleges anyway). But hopefully roles are ill-defined as they go down the line.

Of many, my biggest concern in this game is our bigs running the floor. They've gotta be active and clean up any misses. But UNC running with a 7 man rotation would be somewhat of a break.

        • Well, they may be friends, but both before and after the game, Turge and Roy exchanged only brief hand shakes and comments (a little more after the game). Maybe they connected earlier and chatted, but you never would have detected any "love" in what happened tonight. No hate either, but just sort of a routine "good game". Gary and K used to spend much more time talking and while they respected each other, they were definitely rivals. Just observing.

Turgeon said they spoke at length on the phone Friday and added that he didn't expect to say much to him before or after the game.

Yes, I didn't mean to imply in any way any "issues", just that both right before the game and then right after it, they did not spend much time talking. Someone just told me that they did visit a bit during warm ups, but while I was there, must have missed it.

They sat together on the bench and chatted it up like best friends before the game. They showed tape of it during the ESPN broadcast.
