Turgeon Still Working on Rotation

Mark Turgeon

Mark Turgeon has played at least 10 players in each of Maryland's 11 games this season.

With 11 games under his belt this season, and heading into Saturday's tilt with Delaware State, coach Mark Turgeon has yet to find a suitable rotation for Maryland.

    • I'm having real withdrawl. I've missed the last 2 games because of work travel and there was the long 9 day break. I feel like I haven't watched this team in a month!

    • Exactly what I wanted to hear from Turgeon about the rotation. I'm glad that he is opened to switching it up based on who and where we play and how the guys are playing. You'd think that's a no-brainer, but it's still a nice thing to be reiterated.

I think Howard, Faust, Wells, Padgett, Len will obviously see major minutes in every ACC game, and either Shaq or Mitchell probably will as well depending on who Turge is feeling more comfortable with at the time...but both will still play. We will see Aronhalt a lot against zones for sure and if we need a shooter on the floor he's the best we've got. Layman will play, but until he improves and shows he has the ability to compete at this level, it won't be too much. Interested to see what happens with Allen's minutes most. He has shown us sparks so far, but he needs to put it together for full games and take care of the ball if he wants to see the floor more. Pe'shon is clearly the better option at PG for now and as Turgeon said in an interview with Evan Daniels earlier today, Seth will probably see plenty of time playing next to Pe' instead of at the point.

Also, if I'm Turge I make sure that either Len or Dez are on the court at ALL times. Just saying.

    • I had occasion to watch the UMES game the other day on ESPN3, which I had missed. Obviously a bad opponent, but Layman played well: hit some threes, cut in for a dunk, passed well. He has been erratic but he has talents (outside shooting, lengh on defense) that could be important down the road if he becomes more consistent and comfortable. Wing shooting is our major weakness (I think the turnovers are more correctable).

What I've noticed about Layman is that on defense he has such long arms, but always gets them up or 'in place' late. Which is hard to understand. I assume he's just having a hard time adjusting and once the timing gets there he will be a contributor.

    • I'd wouldn't mind seeing Allen getting 5-10 more minutes at SG even if it comes at Faust's expense. Don't get me wrong I like Faust but I don't want Allen to lose too many minutes in league play.
