In a must-win situation against Clemson, Maryland got a big game from Nick Faust and took care of business. How did the Terps grade out individually? Here’s our report card.

    • I would grade Wells higher. Scoring aside, 7-1 A/T is worthy of a B-.

Len's points were mainly after the game was out of reach.

    • Layman played an A game today. If you watch him off the ball, he just knows where to go - either on offense or defense. I'm pretty sure his bball IQ is higher than the rest of the team put together

He's gonna be so amazing next year!

He made some bad fouls in the last 10 minutes, did a nice job on the break though, don't remember Dez making any jumpers?

He and Evan next year should be a matchup nightmare with their size and shooting ability.

    • I really like that after being so one-dimensional against BC just firing 3-pointers, Layman was more aggressive getting to the basket instead of just settling for jumpers. He's basically Singler/Dunleavy.

Good point I was thinking the same, he needs to get to the rim and balance the 3 ball. If he is a threat off the dribble and his size he will get his shot off almost anytime!

He did look good today. I was worried after the duke game at Cameron that he was going to be lost all season. He got yelled at every play by some coach or player for being in the wrong place or running the wrong play. So it is nice to see him figuring it out and will be a great 4 year player for us.

    • Was surprised Layman had 31 minutes, that says a lot. Kid is super-skilled

    • 8 turnovers was also good, and they had 7 steals. Still need to do better at foul shooting 6-16 doesn't get it done.

    • I was really happy for Nick Faust who obviously played one helluva game. It creates a conundrum of sorts for me. I've never thought of Nick as a point guard, but if you could get that kind of play and production from him at the point going forward (and today was sooooooooo much better than anything we've seen in a while), is there any reason not to continue to use him at the point at the expense of Seth or anyone else?

    • Still not a PG, IMO. Clemson didn't pressure the ball much and I don't see too many zero TO games in Nick's future as a PG.

Im guessing Seth/Roddy/Pe will get those minutes next year.

He's the best option at PG, probably by a wide margin.

    • I would give Turgeon an A for today. We struggle so much in the half-court offense that it's really important for us to get easy baskets. We did that with a bunch of steals that led directly to dunks. Turgeon let us pressure Clemson for a great majority of the game. That led to those easy baskets. A young team that has so many problems in a half-court offense needs those easy baskets to gain confidence. Faust's threes were very exciting but, I was happier with his defensive efforts. He was wreaking havoc in the passing lanes. His shot will come and go but, that defensive pressure can be a constant pain in the ass for opponents. Layman, Faust, and even Mitchell were all energized by the full court pressure. Even Pe'Shon had a steal. He got lucky that Len did not charge into a Clemson defender but, that play turned out well for us. And, it was just more fun to watch. Now, if we can incorporate the alley-oop I will be thrilled. Layman, Faust, and Wells are made for throw down dunks from the baseline. Turgeon needs to channel "good Gary" and make that a part of our offense. The fans at Comcast will lose their minds. I look forward to that. Go Terps.

Well that's the conundrum. He is our best option right now if we want to win right now. He did a better job of getting the team into an offensive flow today than anyone has all season, and he valued the ball and didn't turn it over. And turnovers have been this team's undoing for most of the year. And I agree with shinyman that he still isn't a PG, but I don't see a better alternative.

Agreed. Really appreciated him flexing his philosophy to fit the teams length and athleticism.

    • Made my first game this season and do I have a man-crush on Jake(not the hair either). It was fun watching him in person, he's very smooth and nice form on his J...looking to put the ball on the floor was nice to see also. He should be all conference level by his junior year...I know Dunleavy/Singler has been thrown out, but how about a taller Joe Harris?? The way Harris has developed, I'll take that!

Also, really like Chuck...he's just always near the ball when it's up for grabs. Has more quickness and can go low post and get around bigger defenders than Shaq, who's mainly Bull in a China shop. IT will be interesting to see how each of the 4 frosh look next season.

The press was nice to see as well...I know it's not Turge's favorite but this team especially is more built for it. Got to make some easy buckets each game and it seems like a no-brainer.

    • Faust isn't a long-term option at starting PG for a great team, but at this point, I'm more comfortable having him run it as a backup. Split his minutes between there and the wing and hope for the best.
